mob & mog wearing same color?

Is it some sort of rule that the MOB and MOG can’t wear the same color? My FMIL got her dress months ago, from what I remember it’s lavender (my mom swears it’s mauve). My mom (a bit of a procrastinator) just got hers today and told me it’s purple.. supposedly it’s royal purple but I haven’t seen it...

I’m probably overthinking things. The wedding is in 29 days and the stress is definitely getting to me!

I was always told the FMIL and your mom should match in some way.

There are no rules for anything. My mom is wearing navy, and MOG is wearing a purple color that I have no idea why she picked, but it's her choice, and I'm sure it will be fine. We're letting people wear what they feel comfortable in

I wouldn’t worry about it at all! I told my bridesmaids to pick a light pink dress of their choice. Then my mom happened to find a light pink dress that she loved so I told her to go ahead and buy it. So I told my FMIL “hey my mom and the bridesmaids (one being her daughter) are all wearing light pink if you want to but totally wear whatever you want” so basically they are all wearing light pink which is super in right now so who cares 😊🤷🏼‍♀️

Lots of old time etiquette books and magazines assumed the Mother of the bride to have greater status than the MOG. Thus, MOB was supposed to make a dress choice, and set the tone or formality ( same formality as bride or one step less formal.) Then she talked with MOG so MOzG would not choose anything similar in design or color, so she would mot take the spotlight from the brides mother. But most people these days do not think the bride's family controls the wedding, now mostly the couple is in control. And most people see the MOB and MOG as of equal status. So neither tells the other what to wear, or not wear. Usually bride checks to make sure they did not choose the exact same dress so they do not look like a second set of bridesmaids. Other than that, each dresses in consideration of what their SO ( husband, friend) is wearing, and can choose any color or style without regard to the other mother. Orchid, lavender, mauve, iris, purple, all pretty. All that matters.

I mean I don't care what color either shows up in, as long as it's not white and appropriate to the season/formality.

Of course, I am totally going to read what everyone says, just in case there's a reason that I haven't heard of yet that I need to worry about. Smiley winking

MOG got her dress months ago, she went for a navy I believe, my Mom hasn't bought hers yet and I am pretty sure she will go for blue. They have such different looks and style, I doubt anyone would even make the connection.

I am not picky at all about what anyone wears if they aren't in the BP. My Mom and MIL are wearing are both wearing dresses that have purple in them but that is the least of my worries lol.
