MOB Wearing Black, any thoughts?

I went shopping with my mom and everything that looked good on her was black. We found the perfect dress but it was also black. Should we get it, or black is a no-no? My wedding will be a formal event, with sunset ceremony and evening reception. What are your thoughts???

She probably feels more comfortable in black. Black is very slimming and forgiving. I know my mom is very body conscious and if she found something she loved in black I would tell her to go for it. I think in more formal weddings it is totally acceptable as well.

Can we see a pic?! Smiley smile

Black sounds like it will go beautifully with your wedding!

My FMIL wanted to wear a black dress (and put FFIL in a black tux) when my wedding is very casual and rustic... groomsmen in nice jeans and brown jackets..... I wasn't thrilled about that. But luckily she changed her mind. Smiley smile

I asked my Mom not to wear all black, I may have said it to my FMIL too. I looked at it like they were mourning my wedding. My mom will be in Navy, FMIL is a dark purple. Both have very pretty dresses.

Both my mom & FMIL absolutely refused to even try on a black dress. I still can't understand why. I think that if she looks & feels good in the dress, go for it! The color doesn't matter.

I told my mom to wear black if she could not find anything else in another color. I honestly do not care what color she chooses - anything will be fine.

I have no problem with black, I prefer my mom to not, only because our wedding is in April, at 1pm. Black just doenst seem appropriate for the occasion. But If you are good with it, that is all that matters.

I wore black to 2 of my 4 girls' weddings and I was a thrilled MOB both times. Black it timeless and elegant and I find it ridiculous that people would still associate it with mourning when it is perfectly acceptable for everyone else to wear black to a wedding. Now....add in a black veil over the face and we have a whole new ballgame.

People sometimes cringe when it comes to black at weddings, but it never bothers me. I told my mom she could wear whatever she wanted, and black was fine, but maybe not white.
