Modern day Great Gatsby🤔

Jennifer, on November 4, 2020 at 2:40 AM Posted in Style and DĂ©cor 0 4

Ok so I need a few suggestions. So our wedding colors are black and gold (My FH fav colors) and every time I say something about it to someone or just think about it in general the first thing that comes to mind is the Great Gatsby/ a 1920s type theme. Beautiful right? Exciting right? Very classy right? Yeah no! I don’t mind the idea as I do love that whole style era BUT how do I modernize It with like a 2020s spin on it? I want it to remain “Classy & Elegant” as those are very formal colors but I don’t want a “Halloween party” with pinstripe suits and gats. Don’t get me wrong he and I are very silly individuals but I want a nice theme... ANY IDEAS..

Oops, it's ok, good thing you caught the typo. Art Deco is all about geometric shapes, bold colors and simple lines. Look at cities like Paris, NYC and Los Angeles for inspiration. You will see how these places incorporate the style in today's world. You could also research old adverts for steam liners which give a good idea of the juxtaposition of modern and classic. Honestly, Art Deco is timeless in my opinion.

I think a lot of the gatsby vibes relies on the venue (ie, lots of gold, chandeliers, grand staircases, etc.). What’s your venue like?

Honestly we HAVENT even decided on one yet🤦🏽‍♀️ I want an outside ceremony with a possible indoor outside reception. Leaning more so toward a hotel wedding with a view. I want to get married around 7pm for sunset wedding. Kinda symbolizing shedding my maiden name and embracing the beauty of my married name. And it’s going to be in June so that will be perfect because it won’t be too hot or cold at night.
