Traditionally the parents of the bride always paid for the wedding! Today many couples take a modern approach, either paying for it themselves, contributing to the wedding budget, or getting help from both families!

So who’s footing the bill? Are your parents generously embracing tradition, or are you taking a modern approach that works for you?

Traditional. My parents paid. They did the same for my sister and here husband years ago and wanted to keep with tradition and do they same for us. We of course paid for gifts, rings and some other odds and ends though

Modern, everyone is chipping in a little at a time. Most of it will be handled by us(me and my FH) and my parents, although we're doing a lot of DIY stuff too.

Yeah modern I guess because we are paying for everything. my mom has said she wishes she could pay for a few things but I can't see that coming to fruition

Modern! My FH and I are paying for the wedding mostly by ourselves. It's a small, all inclusive chapel that we're going to have the ceremony + cocktail reception at. Following that, we're having a "full dinner buffet or BBQ) at his mother's home. We can't rely on anyone to help us, and we don't really care to ask. We've always done everything on our own, anyway.

Modern. My parents paid for my dress and veil, my ffil paid for our photography, and my fmil wants to contribute here and there. We have been saving and paying for everything by ourselves until they offered and will still be paying the bulk of the costs.

We are covering the bill of the wedding. It's just my mom who is having her own financial struggle that there is no way I would want her to pay for it. If my dad was alive, we would still be covering the wedding but my parents would help out a lot more.

Traditional, my parents are graciously paying for our wedding which makes it easier on us. We are a young couple and have just started working full time this past year after graduating college and are in the process of buying a house so without them we wouldn’t be getting married for like 5 more years! Luckily now we have some extra money we were budgeting for the wedding to take a honeymoon right after the wedding!

Due to this not being the first marriage for either of us, we are paying for it ourselves.

All 3 sets of parents gifted us what they could, along with smaller gifts here and there from close family members like my grandmother, and we paid for a significant amount. Like anything else in life, we're grateful to get help when we can but never really planned to rely on anyone else when making giant purchases.
