We were far from traditional when it came to picking out our rings. She bought mine on a cruise we had taken at the beginning of this year in one of the ports. It all started because I messed up my promise ring that she had given me and we went in for a free gift and walked out with my engagement ring.

We went shopping together and I picked it out

Traditional he picked it out with no help what so ever. We never even looked in a jewelry store together. And he did a fantastic job!

I told him I wanted a labradorite ring and showed him a few photos but then he picked out the ring on his own. It was close to 6 months between him asking me what type of ring I would like and the actual purchase of the ring so I give him a lot of credit with picking it himself. He did a fantastic job!

Traditional all the way! Even asked my mother for her blessing beforehand.

We shopped together for mine. I fell in love with the style and he couldn't resist buy it then and there.

A mix. She asked me what my top three stones were (because diamonds are too expensive and not my style - I prefer colored stones) and whether I prefer yellow gold or white. I knew that she was shopping for it because she not so subtly measured my finger while we were watching TV one night, and I'm the one who signed for the ring when it arrived. She designed it with an online jeweler and it was mailed to us but I was the only one home when the mail carrier arrived and it had to be signed for not just left in the box. I was good and didnt open the shipping box and look at it ahead of time but it was so hard...

Modern. He knew the styles I liked so he took my mom with him to make the final pick

Originally it was a mix, but in the end I’d say he did it all himself. We went out together one to look and figure out what I like. I was really unsure as I didn’t like any of the ones we tried all that much. I ended up telling him to maybe get a three stone? He was very adamant after that one day that I should not be involved. He wanted to pick one out and surprise me.

Well flash forward to a few months before the surprise proposal and I was second guessing my recommendations. I thought about telling him I now longer wanted a three stone, but I didn’t out of fear that he’d already bought a ring and would feel he needs to return it. So... in the end he picked out a beautiful solitaire, completely throwing my wish washy recommendations to the side (thank goodness)! I’m so happy with his choice; I’m super proud to wear it every day and I spend way to much time at work staring at it and thinking of him. 😍

Traditional, he made it a while ago but was waiting for the perfect person (i.e. me) to give it to since the stone is from his moms ring when his mom and dad got married

Totally traditional. I had zero idea it was coming. We actually had discussed not getting married so it was out of left field. But he did amazing.
