Seeking ideas for a friend who is going to be the MOH in another friend's wedding. MOH is not a fan of the groom and is having trouble thinking of what to say in her speech. She has ideas to talk about her friendship with the bride and about two families coming together but overall is drawing a blank. She can't even talk about the love between the couple and doesn't want to lie. Anyone else been in a similar situation?

    Does the groom make the bride happy? Does he treat her well? I would focus on stuff like that. She doesn't have to get into her relationship (or lack of one) with the groom!

    Keep the speech short and sweet. Have her talk about her friendship with the bride and how she wishes her and their families every happiness. Smiley smile

    Agreed.

    MOH can absolutely say something about the grooms redeeming qualities or about how the groom makes the bride happy. If the MOH despises the groom so much that she cannot think of anything nice to say, then she shouldn't be speaking at the wedding and probably should have declined the MOH role if she things bride and groom are not a good match.

    You don't have to be besties with your friend's SO to say nice things about them or recognize the positive impact they have on your friend, but if you don't support the marriage then you shouldn't be standing in the wedding at all.

    Also if there is also a Best Man, its fine for the MOH's speech to be more bride focused and the Best Man's speech to be more groom focused. I had no bridesmaids at our wedding because my MOH was pregnant and could not attend, so the best man made a short toast that spoke nicely of both myself and my husband.
