Hi all! What are your thoughts on diamond look-alike rings?! I specifically wanted a moissanite ring. They are beautiful and less than half the price of a diamond. However... most people assume it’s a diamond and ask diamond specific questions like, “How many carats is it?”. Should I come clean...
Hi all! What are your thoughts on diamond look-alike rings?! I specifically wanted a moissanite ring. They are beautiful and less than half the price of a diamond. However... most people assume it’s a diamond and ask diamond specific questions like, “How many carats is it?”. Should I come clean about what it really is or should I just go on with the conversation as if it’s a diamond and not spill the beans. PS no one, not even the jewelry store that I took it to to clean it, has ever noticed!

I asked at kohl’s to see their lab diamond wedding bands and she said “the synthetics are over here”. I said no, the lab created diamonds. Turns out they didn't sell them at that store (maybe only online), but lady you work in jewelry!

I personally don't believe it's really anyone's business. That's just me. I started out feeling guilty by not sharing it's not a "real diamond" but I just came to terms with the fact that it's not a story I feel like sharing 100 times. (Gosh, that comes across so snippy, I really don't mean to sound like a B, but it's just the truth.) If it clears your conscience, then go for it. But you do not owe that to anyone. I'd be honest with my mother, if she was still around, and that's it. My FMIL knows, and that's the only person aside from me and FH. Smiley heart Just rock it and be proud of your ring. Smiley smile

Oh, and I think an 8mm stone would be similar to many 2ct diamonds in size Smiley smile. Mine is 8.5mm and is a 2.5ct. It varies slightly, but I estimate 8mm is pretty close to 2ct.

I agree with the last person though. You must be tired from explaining the history of jewelry to the clueless haha

I have 2 ct moissy and we live in Germany. Big house nice cars. Here no one makes a big fuss about erings. And honestly no one knows about moissanite.

    I love mine.
Everyone thinks it is a diamond.
In fact testers are telling is a diamond only special moissanite tester can tell the difference.
Also that it is a different stone. I know. However it is closer to pure carbon than some contaminated diamonds also even De Beers started to sell Lightbox artificial diamonds officially for the first time.
However you will never know if you get natural or lab diamonds are what you purchase or even enhanced. You, as customer will NEVER know the difference.
Anyway either you get lab diamond or chances are that hands were chopped or children were working on your diamond or it was transported in someone's body cavity.
So with moissanite at least you know what you get.
    My ring is under 300$!
People think it worth as much as my car! Let them think. If my rings come in conversation I just thank the compliments.
I do not educate society. Here I do, but usually people are not THAT interested, if you say is not diamond cz is the only thing they know.
So can you pass it as diamond? For sure you can. I don't try to and it is happening.
Ps. I have a small stud pair and goes well with pearls as well.
Diamonds are not rare, special or even more durable. Moissanite beats diamond in toughness, hardness is being scratched toughness is holding on pressure. There moissanite beats diamond, also it endures higher temperature. In house fire moissanite survives, diamond won't.
It is all marketing what feature is more promoted.
But facts are facts, be smart Girls! This is your ring your money. No one else's business!

I specifically requested a moissanite ring from my fiancé who initially refused, but when I explained my views around the diamond industry and how similar moissanite truly is, he ended up getting me a moissanite ring! I brag about it every chance I get. I’m very proud of my ring and that there’s zero chance anyone, especially a child, was exploited for the ring on my finger. I don’t keep the company of the type of folks who would judge what kind of stone is on my ring anyway.
