Who has chosen a moissanite ring over a diamond? We are looking to upgrade my center stone and I just want opinions! Post pics if you have them.

Glad you agree 😊 Diamond industry did an amazing job at marketing over the years, so many people are brainwashed with “diamond is better” argument.
I find this is a hot topic because people who chose diamond have a tendency to talk down about moissanite, as if they need to justify to themselves their very expensive purchase lol. I just love spreading info & facts about diamonds / moissanite, that many don’t know about & also sharing my excitement about why moissanite was the only choice for me! We can all be happy with our decisions at the same time, right? 🙂
The biggest value of all jewelry is sentimental & family history value. Reselling any of it is always a money loss lol, no matter if it’s a diamond or any other stone.

I started buying moissanite 10 years ago. I started with ShopNBC now Evine with studs. I purchased a total of 5 pairs. 3 sets for myself and 2 for friends as gifts. They are beautiful. I have certified diamond studs and you can barely tell the difference. They also have a nice selection on rings necklaces etc. I like them because you can purchase outright or pay on EasyPay. It may help with budgeting. Enjoy.

I absolutely love my Moissanite ring! It was more within our budget also and looks just as gorgeous. The sparkle is amazing.

Comments like “fake diamond” are why I participate in these forums, so that people can get informed & know that there are options.
I have several very expensive diamond jewelry pieces from the past, because at the time I didn’t know better. But after I learned about horrors & scams of diamond industry & about amazing properties of moissanite, I personally can’t ignore it or ever go back. Yes, you are saving ton of money, which is great! And yes, I absolutely love the sparkle moissanite gives 😍 But even more importantly, I can sleep at night knowing nobody died because of the stone I wear on my finger.

In my opinion I don't think white sapphire looks like a diamond. Maybe more like a white topaz. Nevertheless we don't get Moissanite to pass them off as a diamond. Anytime I go into Zales or Kays and they mention my "diamond" I always correct them and say Moissanite.

Back in the 80's Debeers did the whole "diamonds are forever" campaign. They brainwashed society into thinking if you don't have a diamond in your engagement ring, it isn't right, or real, or whatever. I think we (society) is smarter now and we have gotten over all the diamond brainwashing. We know we can spend $ on a gemstone like Moissanite and still have $$$ to put down on a house or early retirement or whatever. Plus, I think celebrities made it ok to wear gemstone engagement rings and not always have a diamond.

Some people may love the clear look of the stone but not necessarily be a diamond person whether morally or financially.

Now, don't get me wrong, I've seen a post where some girl was actually passing hers off as a diamond because she didn't want to be judged by others. I don't worry about being judged because no one except my fiance paid for my ring so I don't care what anyone else thinks. I tell them its a Moissanite.

I agree with you 100%. I don't even have diamond in my side stones. My ring is 100% ethical as Moissanite center Morganite halo and I feel great about that. Even with the whole Kimberly Process now I hear scams on that and people are now exporting and switching unethical diamonds under the Kimberly Process. Too risky so I just avoid diamonds. My money is spent elsewhere on my important things.

I have a Moissanite and love it.

It came down to moral and financial reasons for us. I didn't want to buy into the diamond industry that makes hand over fist lying to couples that their relationship is wrapped up in the C's of the ring. Your ring does not hold value. The only thing important about it is the emotions attached.

I love how it sparkles. It's always eye catching.

Wow thanks everyone for your insights! By the way all your rings are so gorgeous. I’m not so vain that I think I have to have a giant diamond LOL. I just didn’t do my research about diamonds or moissanite before I got my ring (we were engaged at 19). I realized I never put a pic of my ring to explain what I want done. I have found the perfect contour wedding band but I think it looks uneven with only one on bottom so I want one on top and bottom. With that being said I was afraid my center stone would be lost since it’s 1/4 ct. which is what started me considering upgrading the stone. So I asked the jeweler if they were able to remove the inner halo because it’s not structural and the center stone and set a moissanite there. I’d of course keep the diamonds and have them set in a pendant or something because I wouldn’t want to waste money. Also please don’t think I’m ungrateful, my fh and I have discussed this and he is for it. 🙂 If they can’t do what I want I will happily keep my ring as it is!

I thought about moissanite, but I was set on a champagne diamond. I love the color, and don’t care for the colorless look of Mois and white diamonds. But anything labelled “champagne” hikes up the price like crazy! So after some research my fiancé got an “M” colored diamond, which has a cream/light champagne color to it. My diamond is 1.25ct and cost around 1.2k. It’s a VS1, excellent cut, but just because of the color it was so much less. Moissanite is a fabulous alternative to a diamond, or you could get a “less desirable” type of diamond.

I love this discussion and I love how much research everyone has put into their rings. This is awesome!

When I worked at a jewelry store, I sold both diamonds and moissanites. We were one of the only places in the area offering moissanites at the time so many people weren't familiar and it was so much fun to compare and find the right ring for everyone. (I'm a jewelery nerd, I adored this job)

You all are totally correct that an investment/resale value should be the last thing considered when purchasing a piece of jewelry. Usually the weight of the metal is more important than the type or size of stone, unless you have an especially (1.5+ carats) large diamond or a very high quality certified smaller stone (D, VVS, ideal cut). Otherwise it is a totally emotional process.

I will say that I can visually see the difference between moissanite, diamond, and CZ. I've reliably picked tiny diamonds out of a bowl of CZs before. Most people can't and it doesn't surprise heading the stories of salespeople complimenting moissanites as diamonds.

Even with the most colorless moissanite, it will show a greenish/yellowish tinge when compared to a colorless diamond. My co-worker used to say that moissanites sparkle more rainbows, which is totally true. Ideal cut diamonds will show more white light sparkles. For someone who loves size or doesn't want a diamond, they're perfect.

I always caution against stones that aren't diamonds, sapphires/rubies, or moissanites being used in engagement rings. It's great to see that people are checking on hardness when looking at rings. It's very important to remember that you're wearing this ring every day for years.

For the original poster, go for moissanite if you like it! The only thing I'd caution you to look at is the shape of the head holding your center stone. It looks like you have a round stone with a square halo. It may be a better fit to put a square moissanite in rather than a round one, but there may not be room for a square head. Your jeweler will be able to help you more once they see it, but think about shape in case it comes up.

I honestly have no way of telling from the pictures you posted. But, don't worry, the goldsmith at the jeweler will be able to help you once they see it in person. Just keep it in the back of your mind since you're changing head shapes. It also may not be possible due to the construction of the ring, which is why they want to see it. If it has been solid cast they may not be able to get in there.

I have always been a little confused by this question. I guess I don't understand why we automatically have to think "diamond" when we think "white stone." I've always liked the look of white stones, but I honestly couldn't care less if it's a diamond or not. Also not meaning to offend, this question has just never made sense me. If it was blue sapphire that people were against, I wouldn't necessarily expect them to avoid all blue stones. I don't think anyone should avoid a white stone just because they disagree with the diamond industry. I don't eat meat but I do love vegan meat alternatives, you know?

My e ring would've been about $22k with a diamond. FH was down for this, because he wanted me to have my dream ring, but as the frugal one in the relationship, I kind of couldn't stomach it. I couldn't justify wiping out our savings, etc. for a ring (NO judgment for those who have done this or who have the big diamond, I'm just uptight about money!).

I knew exactly what I wanted my ring to look like, but I never really cared that it was a diamond. I didn't want white sapphire because I knew they didn't hold up as well long-term. Once I discovered moissanite, it was an easy decision. I LOVE the sparkle (honestly am at the point where I prefer moissanite over diamond because of this) and the way I saw it, if for some reason it didn't live up to the hype or something, we could replace it with a diamond with only a little over $1,000 loss (still a lot, but nothing compared to 22k).

I LOVE my e ring. FH got it from Moissanite Co. He had a good experience and he said their customer service was pretty prompt and helpful.

This is my actual dream ring! It's beautiful! Did you have any input in the ring buying decision or did you SO do it alone? Smiley love

Thank you! I told him there were just 3 requirements to my ring: (1) the metal is rose gold, (2) the stone is a moissanite, or at least NOT a diamond, and (3) that it be purchased from a specific company that provides clean water to a community with every ring purchase. We talked about it as he was buying the ring, so it felt like we collaborated on it, but the solitaire, cut, size, prongs and basket were all his own decisions.

I originally thought I wanted more stones on it, like with pavé band, a halo, or just a more intricate ring, but he vetoed that really quickly haha. I'm glad though because I've really come to love the simplicity of the solitaire and can't imagine having anything else!

I have a moissanite-- I wanted something ethical and we had a budget to stick to. I've gone to jewelers for my husbands band who can't tell the difference and we spent a quarter of what a diamond would have cost. Both my e-ring and band are moissanite.

I agree. I personally wouldn't care that people know i am wearing a moissanite. After doing research, I've determined that o like the way ot sparkles. I will be getting a moissanite wedding band because i love having options in life. My engagement ring is a diamond- even though i am aware of the issues surrounding the mining industry, i don't agree. I love my engagement ring but if i was aware of moissanite then i would have asked for that instead. For me engagement rings are just temporary distractions and the wedding band should be the main event. So I'm glad i learned there was another sparkly option i could go with instead of a diamond. I don't look at it like a cubic zirconia bc it's not and i will proudly share what my stones are.

    Perfect answer! 👏
That question is a consequence of brainwashing that diamond industry did to all of us over many decades, where they persuaded us that diamonds are the only right option when it comes to clear, sparkly stones for e-rings. So now we are not supposed to like anything that sparkles, in this case, better than a diamond, because that’s “fake” & we are trying to trick people lol. It’s just really silly to me. I’m proud of my moissanite choice & I happily talk about it!
