Moissanite vs diamond

Mary, on February 20, 2023 at 7:20 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

Hello dear friends!

Are there girls who wear moissanite engagement rings every day for several years? I wonder if moissanite really look like diamonds when used daily?

I have a family member that chose moissanite for ethical/environmental reasons. Had she not told me it was moissanite, I would never have known it wasn’t a diamond. She wears it daily, but removes it for the usual things (showering, washing dishes, working out, sleeping, etc.). She’s been married over four years now, and has had no issues with the ring

This is my moissanite just now that I've been wearing every day since August 2018 (taken off to shower, wash dishes, messy tasks).

Weddingwire is really compressing the photo, but the glimmer is sharp and still has lots of "fire" if I move my hand in the light. No scratches obviously, and no discoloration like yellowing or anything. I'm quite happy with my moissanite.Moissanite vs diamond 2

I personally don’t have moissanite but several of my friends do. They love their rings and don’t have any issues. They can be great quality, sturdy, and of course reflect light just as much as a diamond. Don’t forget that the type of cut will affect how much light it can reflect, too.

My ring is lab diamonds. NO ONE has ever even questioned if they were "real" or not, it is that gorgeous. I had threatened my FH that if he ever were to buy me an engagement ring he best NOT spend a fortune on real, as the man made stones are just as beautiful for a fraction of the cost.

Beautiful ring. Lab created diamonds are still diamonds- just without the conflict. Doesn’t make it any less real Smiley smile

Moissanite is an entirely different stone than diamond with different properties and light performance. IMO you should only get moissanite if you love it for itself, not if you’re hoping to make anyone think it’s a diamond.

A lab diamond is a diamond. I have a lab diamond necklace and a natural engagement ring with comparable specs and there's literally no difference. Most jewelers could not tell the difference if lab diamonds weren’t required to have a microscopic laser inscribed serial number. There are some very subtle, also microscopic clues that a diamond may have been manmade but some mined diamonds also have those characteristics. Anyway, moissanite and diamond, whether mined or manmade are two totally different stones. As with diamonds, moissanites can differ in quality but yes, they can potentially be worn forever.

It's cool) I know that they are almost indistinguishable. I was just interested in the technical aspect, how "hardy" they are))

Thank you for your answer) As far as I read, round-cut stones reflect the light best. But maybe I'm wrong.

Yes, real diamonds are highly overpriced. I think this has been going on since ancient times, when only royal families could wear diamonds.

It's lab diamonds that are indistinguishable, not IMO moissanite. Moissanites are hardy but do not perform or look like diamonds to anyone who is familiar with them. That's why I said one should get moissanite if they like it for itself.

Yes, I believe round reflects light the best because it has more facets

I have a moissanite which I’ve been wearing on the daily for a little over a year now and I absolutely love it! No outside at all whatsoever

This looks a lot like my engagement ring only I have a double halo and thus slightly smaller center stone. Mine is diamond but I do wish I knew about moissanite before shopping to see what the options are! I love my ring though so maybe moissanite earrings or other jewelry are in my future.
