Mom and Dads Wedding Anniversary

Ms.G, on January 24, 2017 at 8:01 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 15

My mom and dad have been amazing, all my life and through wedding planning. They are paying for our entire wedding and have not given a budget, have not forced anything we didnt want, have been open to all my ideas, my mom is paying for my shower and the room and bus for the bachelorette party. They have said this entire time, if it makes you happy then lets do it (you're only getting one wedding tho! <--- thats my dads insert! Lol) now our wedding is 2 days before their 33rd anniversary, Im getting them the typical parents gifts but I want to do something special for them at the wedding to celebrate their 33 years of marriage for everything they've done for us in regular life and wedding planning, any suggestions?!

I think a small cake at the RD would be very sweet!

My grandma and grandpa recently went to a wedding on their 50th wedding anniversary and the couple had special plates made for them waiting at their spot on the table. It was really sweet and special! She has it up in her formal dinning room on display.

Can you talk to the hotel and see if they can do something special for them? Not sure if your hotel has a spa, but maybe get them massages or a couple's oil treatment or something?

You could also make a speech at the wedding for them, like your MOH and Best Man will do for you and FH.

I just want to add that this is so sweet and reminds me of my parent's (well, now my Mom's) involvement in our day. Happy for you. Smiley smile

You can have an anniversary spotlight dance to honor them at the reception. Talk to your DJ about it.

Maybe a special song for them to have a second "first dance" after you and your spouse?

Agreed on the song! My sister got married on our parents' anniversary and surprised them with a dance to "their" song. Our wedding is three days after their anniversary, so we're going to do the same.

My parent's 42nd anniversary was 4 days after our wedding so we had the band play a song for them right after the parent dances

Is there anyone around who attended their wedding? If someone remembers their first dance song, it would be amazing for you to invite them to have a spotlight dance to their original song. If not, just start picking your mom's brain. Start the conversation by telling her that you're thinking of a great first dance song. It would be easy for you to segue into her wedding, and chances are, she'll tell you what her first dance song was.

If you play it for them and give them four minutes in the spotlight, you will give them an emotional experience they'll never forget.

You're a wonderful daughter -- obviously raised by wonderful parents.

Oh my goodness. We are getting married 3 days after my parents anniversary. We should do something! Thanks for the reminder. Ha

ETA I LOVE the idea of playing their first dance song and having them dance to it.

This is a great idea! We are getting married a week after my parents anniversary date. They got married very young due to having me in high school so they never had an actual wedding. Any suggestions how I could celebrate them since they don't have a wedding song?

Ask your officiant to include a special recognition of your parents during the ceremony! After all, their long marriage provided a powerful example for you. I have done this many times as a surprise to the couple, and it is always well-received.
