I am going to do a butterfly release, it is decided so please spare me any comments against it. I HAVE done my research, it is not harmful to the butterflies, it's not an ecological or environmental issue where I live. I am going to do a butterfly release, it is decided so please spare me any comments against it. I HAVE done my research, it is not harmful to the butterflies, it's not an ecological or environmental issue where I live. (they are native and helpful to the area), they are allowed at my venue, and yes I know some die but I know the procedure for how to best have a successful one and it will work out well for my area/time of year and resources to keep them cool and warm the day of, etc.

SO all that said, let's get to the topic - so, there are two main options to release: the Monarchs or the Painted Ladies. Monarchs are bigger and more expensive, the Ladies are much smaller but more affordable.

My question is simply this, to those who have seen these before, which ones were they? I want to know if the Painted Ladies are big enough to have nice photos, good look flying, or if it really is worth it to pay the extra for the monarchs. (feel free to also suggest good place to purchase)

MrsC - the painted ladies have a wingpsan of 2" as opposed to monarchs that have 4.5"

I am just going to get the painted ladies.

I'm from Texas. It's our state insect and I live in their migratory path.

Again, I was not trying to be unhelpful.

Do you think this lady would have a heart attack from it?

AugustBride that is one of the best meme's I have seen! Those monarch butterflies are a best. Whether they are nice or not I would not want them flying around me. I think that everything that flies is better from a distance.

The painted ladies kind of look like they have a disease when you show a picture next to the monarch

Try an educational science website like Carolina to purchase a kit to hatch like Mrs C said. I'm not sure if a permit is needed for public purchase of live material.

    This is what will happen:

OP will open the box, 4 will fly out - all the children will scream in terror and all the women will be swinging purses like yellow towels at a Steelers game. 10 elders will get cold cocked and be laying in the aisle among the 46 other butterflies that plopped out and died. Chairs will be knocked over by all the others trying to flee the scene and eventually those 4 butterflies that flew out will end up in the chocolate fountain where they will be eaten and everyone will be poisoned. Then the DNR will show up and give you a $600 ticket for abusing endangered wildlife.

Because my wedding is in the mountains, what do you think of a homeless person hunt at the end? It would really help tie in the camo.

Did anyone see the teaser for Modern Family's wedding, part two? The butterflies get loose in the minivan and eat them....
