Money! Ain't it funny in a rich man's world?!

Mrs. Spring, on February 8, 2021 at 11:19 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 14
I was so sick of receiving negative comments from in-laws about how it's cheaper to have a wedding in their backyard instead of eloping out of town wuthout guests with my fiancé.

I finally sat down and wrote out line by line, the expenses my fiance and I are incurring eloping out of town verses having a tiny wedding in his parents' backyard.
And Dun Dun Dun, what my fiance and I are doing is CHEAPER by $500 to $1000. Yayyyyyyyy!
Just wanted to share this with you all.

The thing with weddings, is there are always going to be people with opinions. obviously i could have had a cheaper wedding too but it's moreso about well do you do have the means, are you going to be happy with your choices, etc.

Weddings are expensive because the media and businesses gaslight people into believing their wedding will be a not-legally binding disaster that your families will be embarrassed by unless you do it their way. Even many budget suggestions listed here at WW are classified as "not good enough" for the same reason that they are going against the Wedding Industry ideal. Do what works for you and ignore everyone else since their budget and vision is not feasible or in line with yours.

People always have opinions! One person said I should have a casual potluck at a park. She it would be “easier.” Coordinating that sounds like a nightmare to me. And I really don’t want to invite out of towns guests to a wedding they have to bring a dish too LOL

No sure how some of your guests would feel, but I wouldn't feel confortable eating at a potluck. Never did before COVID and I definitely won't during covid. Ppl can really lack self awareness, such as touching food they are not eating, double dipping, talking closely over the food. No ma'am, can't do potlucks.

We are having a backyard wedding not because of trying to save money but because of all the restrictions and venues being up in the air about events. And let me tell you I think it's going to end up costing us more than if we had it at a venue. We just paid $1326.96 just on renting the tent, tables, chairs and lights. Then we are hiring a bartender which is another $300. We haven't even started looking at drinks but I heard with alcohol and nonalcoholic beverages we might be looking at another $800. Then all the utensils, cups, and dishes (we are doing the fancier disposable stuff) $120. So yea a destination elopement is going to be much cheaper.

Do what you want and don't let anyone tell you different.

Yes! Its super expensive. Reminds me of Elizabeth Taylor's 1950 film Father of the Bride.

Right???? That was crazy to me. There’s always the anti wedding contingent “I got married in a burlap sack while raking the yard, wedding are wasteful!” crowd.
