Montana Honeymoon In October Advice

Private User, on February 6, 2017 at 6:55 PM Posted in Montana Planning 0 19

DF & I love the idea of not a normal beach honeymoon, espically since we both won't get in the ocean. First place we thought of was Montana. We've heard it will probably be snowing there in October but does anyone know if the parks (Yellowstone or Glacier) will be closed that time of year. We've thought about renting a cabin & going site seeing. Advice from anyone who's vacationed or lives there? Thanks in Advance.

Awesome. Was some of Yellowstone closed during the winter. The parks and views are the biggest reason we want to go. We love the outdoors.

I have been through there earlier than October, but you are correct. There will likely be snow. Many times they have many inches of snow before Halloween. But a lot of it depends on how high in the mountains you are. Parks are open year round, but that is not a guarantee that all of the portions of the park will be open. Many park roads close because they become impassable during the winter/snow months. I would maybe check their National Park websites and see if they have any advice. I follow both parks on Facebook and they are pretty informative. I also have family in the Butte area and they show many pictures of all the snow they get haha!

It looks like it could be hit or miss depending on what you want to visit/see (and probably also how the weather is)...

    Yellowstone: https://www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/ocd_locale.htm

    Glacier: https://www.nps.gov/glac/planyourvisit/hours.htm

It's soo beautiful out there! I can't wait to visit again someday. You will have such a cozy, romantic honeymoon there Smiley smile

Wed be there the second week of October. We think Glacier National Park will probably be the one we want to go to more. I'm gonna follow them on Facebook & maybe email or message them about advice on what to prepare for also.

@Rachel I know we are hoping for the cozy romantic vibe, Smiley smile pics are definitely beautiful so I know in person is gonna be amazing!!

Glacier is absolutely incredible. I HIGHLY recommend it. We were there in July and they had several feet of snow, so yeah, there will be a lot of snow in October.

As for whether or not they'll be open, that's a google question. Not going to look that up for you.

I spent a week or two in Pray, Montana in the summer a few years back. Look up Chico's Hot Springs Resort. Even if it's snowing there are lots to do and the natural hot springs are so wonderfully warm!

I didn't live in Montana, but I did live in Wyoming near Yellowstone! It was so pretty around October! You will probably see some snow, which is really pretty around the mountains. As for If it's going to be open, some things are open all year around while others close around September. Depends on what you want to do! I know we were thinking of going to Colorado which also had some cool things to see. If you like hiking/being outdoors, crestone Colorado is gorgeous!

I was at Yellowstone this last October, and it was beautiful! Some days was even t shirt weather. But it's Montana, so it very well could be snowing in October. It's kind of the transition month, but hopefully it won't be too cold yet while you are there. Glacier Park is also gorgeous! My family owns a cabin there, and the summers are beautiful. Same for October, it could be snowy, or just super cold. Either way, the parks are open yes, but some camping sites and visitor centers are closed. At least they were at yellow stone last year. We saw so many bison, and elk and animals! It was awesome. You guys will have a blast.

Yay I'm being more hopeful that it won't be so much snow we can't do anything lol. I so hope to see all the cool wildlife. We are very big Hunters, greatly appreciate wildlife so that and the view are what we want to see the most! Smiley smile

I love Yellowstone and The Grand Tetons. That area can be so romantic with a great mix of relaxation, fun and adventure and quiet time. October should be fine for weather in regard to the parks still being open.

I grew up in Bozeman, MT which is close to the Big Sky ski resort, and it is a super cute town to honeymoon in. I would recommend finding a hotel in the downtown area as there is cute shops and restaurants within walking distance. It's been awhile, but the places that I remember that had good eats, or coffee were: The Cat Eye Cafe, The Noca Cafe, Leaf and Bean, Plonk (which is a nice wine bar), there is a candy store and a few mom and pop stores with various things as well.

I've been to Glacier once and it was so beautiful. My family rented a cabin and we were able to drive around the park and explore. If I remember correctly, we stayed in the part of Glacier that is in Canada, but were able to go to a high tea service and take bikes and a surrey around the little town that was there.

I hope you have a wonderful trip there, I can't wait to show my FH where I grew up. Hope this was helpful, it's been a few years since I've been home!

Glacier will be the prettier of the two to be honest, it is more of a honeymoon destination (lots of couples here go there for a mini-moon). The snow REALLY depends on the year, so try checking the farmers almanac (yes these things ARE quite accurate in the midwest lol). Even if there is a lot of snow you can still cuddle up in a nice cabin and snuggle <3. Personally I think October here is gorgeous, but I'm a fall kinda girl
