Hi Tia. I am also planning a wedding at MPJG in September 2015. I am early in the planning process. I agree, it has been hard to get a lot of details, and most of the information has been guesses based on what they do at the Cancun location. I am working with a travel agent, so she is making the experience a little less stressful. Im hoping that when they open in March, that brides will start posting about their experiences and I can learn from them. I just hate that I have to wait so long.

How many guest are you expecting? Did they start booking? Did your travel agent get you any deals? What made you choose Jamaica? Sorry so many questions....I am just hoping we can help each other along the way. I am so excited yet feel really stressed about the unknowns like location options for wedding and ceremony....decor costs if bringing my own....etc. Hope to hear from you soon my wedding buddy!!!!!

    Tia,

Now I'm sorry for the late response :-) I still have not received much information. My travel agent has a great relationship with the resort, and is currently attending a conference at their Mexico location, and hopes to get more info. So far, I have only signed the wedding contract to reserve the date and time for the ceremony, and signed the group rate room contract. The only hotel update I have is the price list for the excursion/tours that they have currently contracted to offer, as well as legal ceremony fee, and wedding event prices. To answer your other questions:

    1. We are expecting 40-50 guests based on the current responses to our "save the dates"

    2. Since we are working with an agent, our guests are able to pay over time. So far, we only have 6 families (16 guests) that have put down a deposit on their rooms, but we think things will pick up after the holidays. However, we would not be surprised if a few of the people that have said they would come drop out.

    3. The agent did arrange a group deal for us, that saves about $60 per person off the currently published prices for a 3 night stay. It also includes transportation from the airport. However, there is not a charge for her services, only a small deposit that is applied to your stay; and her expertise has been invaluable. It has made things a lot less stressful for us, since guests can call her with any questions or concerns, instead of me. Also, the payment plan has made it a lot easier for our guests, since they do not have to pay the full cost up front.

    4. I chose Jamaica because my fiancé had no interest in going to Mexico. Jamaica offered everything we wanted at reasonable prices. It also has several direct flights at low costs. I originally was interested in Iberostar, however my agent suggested Moon Palace based on the wedding promotions they offer. I liked that Moon Palace would be a newly renovated resort in a great part of the island, close to the city. I also knew that the amenities and credits would be attractive to our guests. I also received a price list of the ceremony/reception options for both Moon Palace and Iberostar; and Moon Palace offered much more at a lower cost.

I definitely understand the stress of the unknown. I troll the internet at least once a week to see if there are any new images of the resort posted, but so far, just renderings. I've been checking out the pictures of weddings at their Cancun location for an idea of the decor that they offer, as I have been told they will offer the same at the Jamaica location. I plan to keep the decor simple and let the beautiful surroundings be my decoration. I'm sure that once they open, there will be plenty of photos posted.

Feel free to contact me with any questions you might have and please keep me informed as you get information, and I will do the same.

So happy to have found this forum. I just signed a contract for my wedding date and am feeling quite fustrated about the process. I am currently reviewing the contract for the room block and i have a few questions but i feel like many of my questions aren't being answered. Is there anyone in particular that you are speaking with at MPJG that would assist. I have heard they are in high demand for the next couple of weeks, and the resort is set to open in early March. I hope to receive feedback from other brides by then.

HELLO LADIES, hope you had a great holiday season.

Jennifer, we are the worst with these late replies lol. BTW I looked at Iberostar too but they didnt give anything for free and it would have been extremely expensive for us. Also be happy you have that many people booked already. I only have one couple lol. I think most people will use some of their taxes to deposit or pay off. I hate waiting to know the number b/c I cant really plan anything regarding decor until I know exactly how many people are coming. I though i wanted 50 to 70 but now I am thinking 30 would have been ok with me lol. I just want to have fun and relax....I refuse to get stuck on anyone elses agenda.

    Kenyatah.....WELCOME!!!!

So I dont have much more to offer except I to enlisted the help of a travel agent. She is VERY famaliar with the Moon Palace brand. She is even attending the grand opening in March. I told her to take a ton of pics of wedding and reception options. I do believe that I am going to book the 75 room nights to qualify for the unlimited 3hr/ day free events but I have to ask my agent or coordinator at MPJG if there is an upcharge if I have more than 30 guests....I truly hope not as I want to sink my cash into decor. This is my biggest concern in addition to having a great DJ.....my FH keeps saying lets just use a blue tooth speaker..not my idea as I need a hype man lol. Oh and that is the other thing I have been assigned my MPJG onsite coordinator already!!!! We are going to talk next week so I will keep you posted!!!!!

I am happy my cousin who is an AMAZING photgrapher is making the trip and in exchange for photos and video I am paying for him and his wifes 3 night stay. I have my colors picked, and all my songs for everything all set, and I said YES TO THE DRESS two weeks ago. I am now working on small items to personalize the wedding...such as table numbers that will be the names of our deceased grandparents and god parents in honor of them. We are also going to do a game which is kinda like the newleywed game...I did it for my sis wedding and the FH really wants it...it is pretty hilarious.

Has anyone thought of a favor? I was considering just a Jamaica key chain or a small bottle of Appleton rum...since my welcome bag is going to be pretty extensive (tumbler, waterproof id case, gum, mints, asprin..etc).

Also I want to do at least one group activity so I am hoping to do that but I want to choose something where guest can use there resort credits and maybe we just pay their taxes, but I have to find out what that tax rate is first....regardless I want to do one group event. I know I am kind of all over the place but I can get it all out this way lol.

Wow Tia! It seems that you have already done quite a lot.

We are also hoping that our guests are planning to use their tax returns to book their stay. It would be nice to have the free events, but we are not counting on having 75 nights booked. From what I understand, if we can book at least 60 nights, we would qualify for 1 day of events; and I'm thinking we will at least get that. I have actually already asked about the 30 guests limit and was told that as long as they are booked under the group stay, there will be no additional charge for them at the events, no matter how many.

I am not the typical bride and have not taken the time to do any planning. I've moved twice over the past 6 months for my job and will be moving again in a few more months, so I have not been able to make wedding planning a priority. Its part of the reason that I decided to do a destination wedding, in hopes of escaping the madness. I have not even tried on a wedding dress. I know I need to get on it, but I am giving myself until the end of March to lose a little weight before I make a decision. However, you have inspired me to get started on making some decisions. September will be here before I know it. I have received an email from the resort wedding coordinator, but I have not taken the time to write her back. I will do that tomorrow. I also received information from the photographer. Fortunately, their prices were not as bad as I was expecting, and I can use some of our resort credits to cover the cost. We are staying 9 nights, so we should get $2k in credits. We also plan to use our parents credits as they are older and will not likely participate in many excursions, and we are paying for their stays. We are still considering hiring a DJ. I would also like to have one, but we have decided to wait and see how many guests we will have. If its only 30 or less, my FH has said he will create a playlist and we will go the blue tooth route too. He does not think a DJ is necessary for a small group.

I also plan to do very nice welcome bags, so I will not do favors. If you find any great deals on vendors, please pass along their websites. I also plan to do at least two group activities over the wedding weekend, but it will be strictly voluntary and they can use their resort credits if they choose to participate. We have posted on our wedding website that we do not want any gifts, and their presence at the wedding is gift enough. That being said, this wedding is costing us a small fortune, so we are not in the position to cover any fees for our guest.

Please let me know if you get any good intel during your call with the coordinator, and I will do the same.

Kenyatah, I hope that this has been some help to you too. If you have any questions, we would be glad to tell you what little we know!

So i have finally been assigned a wedding Coordinator. The resort is not open yet so there are still a lot of unanswered questions but she has tried to at least try and answer some of my questions. The wedding is booked, but i am having trouble with booking the room reservations. i think i have been in touch with at least 5 people since this started. i hope this goes more smoothly for the wedding. i have received the menus to choose from. I have chosen my wedding collection as well. I'm just waiting until the resort opens. My coordinator stated that there will be a Wedding in March, so we should have some more pics so i can choose the wedding location. I have sent her a couple of ideas and asked if it were possible to execute for the reception. I bought Chinese Sky Laterns for the reception, but i have been informed that they do not allow them. I am working on Placecards, Escort (DIY) and welcome bags. I think i have decided on the bridesmaid dresses, that is if i don't change my mind again. The invites will go out in about a week or so given the reservations department can get this room booking straight. I have already ordered my welcome notes. Vistaprint.com had a great sale, 50% off everything. Detail, Detail, Detail...and it's driving me crazy. i am really looking forward to checking out reviews once the resort opens.

I look forward to hearing from you ladies soon....thanks for the support!!!!

Hello....Kenyatah and Jennifer!!! ok so I have missed the call from the wedding planner three time now.....ugghhhh. I am a lil aggie that there are still so manythings still up in the air as well. I want to know locations of my ceremoony and reception so I can begin to purchase additonal deocrations. I am a lil annoyed the inspiration collections are so expensive and that the colors are so limited. I am hoping that the outside vendors (if we can ever get a list) can give me my vision and for a charper price. I am a event planner and if my fh would let me I would bring all my own stuff to have my vision lol...however he isn't having that lol. Worst case I will propbably go with the purple inspiration idea (love b/c it comes with fire works but if not a night wedding what's the point right) or the all white with pops on my color. So what menus did you decide on? I am upset to hear about the chinese lanterns as I could already envision my pink lanterns in the airSmiley sad

I would really like er to send pics NOW just to give us a clue. I am not sure how they are having a wedding in March when I heard the grand opening was pushed back til April. Oh and regarding your rooms you would have a much easier time going thru a travel agent like Jennifer and I. The hotel seems to take forever to get it right and I didnt want my guest confused or told different things. My TA took over all of that, made me a custom web page and handles all my issues. My wedding web page is http://wedding.com/website/tia-dajuan ......At least you can put a face to my name now. I am nervous and excited because time moves swiftly...we are already headed into Feb. Ladies lets try to do better and keep each other up to date more often. Lastly, what are you puttin gyour welocme bags and how many guests are you having? ttys.

    Hello Ladies,

I'm also planning my wedding at MPJG 09/26/15 , I'm in panic mode! I'm praying that they are open in enough time. With all the bad reviews and the resorts pushing the grand opening up date. I'm looking into a possible plan B. I seen a video on YouTube that a construction worker posted and the resort looks like it will not be open anytime soonSmiley sad

Hi Ladies, I know this thread is pretty old, but I noticed that many are already married now. Any chance that the newlyweds can share how your wedding experience was at the Moon Palace Jamaica Grande? I am considering this location for my wedding venue. Any insights is greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone!!!!! My wedding is coming up really soon at MPJG as well (May 28, 2016) and I stumbled upon this thread while doing a little research. For the past brides, how did everything turn out for your guys??? So far, I haven't had any problems with our wedding coordinator (Trudy-Ann), and she has made this planning process easier than I expected!! My dilemma is setting up our gift registry through the palace resort website!! Moon Palace Cancun is listed, but not Jamaica!!!! And with the wedding quickly approaching, a lot of our guest have inquired about our registry. Did anyone else deal with this issue or have any advice???

Planning a wedding there in July. 4pm is all that was available. What time were your weddings? Do you think 4pm will be too hot?

Also planning a wedding there in October, 5 pm. They said there is no natural sunlight after 6 pm that time of year, but I'm hoping to be able to get some pictures in after the short ceremony. Any insight would be great!
