Morganite or Moissanite?

To start off with, I like both of them. My FH has decided to sell his motorcycle(I had nothing to do with that decision, I swear) because the risk isn’t worth it while our daughter is so young. He plans to use some of the money he gets from the sale to finally buy me a ring. Im trying to decide...
To start off with, I like both of them. My FH has decided to sell his motorcycle(I had nothing to do with that decision, I swear) because the risk isn’t worth it while our daughter is so young. He plans to use some of the money he gets from the sale to finally buy me a ring.

Im trying to decide whether I want a moissanite ring or a morganite ring.
moissanite pros: looks similar to diamond, super sparkly, almost as strong as diamond.

cons: moissanite stones used in rings are often WAAAAY bigger than I’m looking for (about .5 ct) and could easily veer into costume jewelry size.

morganite pros: the rings seem to look daintier to me, a more unique color choice, not as traditional looking.
Cons: I hate pink and even though I feel drawn to them now and I think they’re pretty now I’m worried I’ll start to hate the “pinkness” down the road.

could people perhaps share their rings if they have either, and tell me about your experiences with each? That’d be awesome!

I just looked, the pear shaped moissanite ring I like is 6mm x 8mm as well. I’m going to have to make sure it won’t Swallow my finger, which is a 4.5

Not being able to try on anything even remotely comparable as the scariest part for me. Especially if you want a more unique setting, there is basically no chance of trying something similar on....,

That being said, I had a great experience on Etsy. I did a lot of research, Instagram stalking and review reading before making my choice but I used HelloRing. Derek is the owner/jeweler and he was very helpful. He's also awesome and affordable when it comes to custom orders (I'm going to order my bands in moissanite, which is currently custom). There are 'name brand' moissanite out there but honestly, I just wanted something I wouldn't be terrified to wear all the time - he sources his moissanite from jewelry shows and they are colorless/near-colorless and stunning in my opinion. I feel my ring looks just like, if not better than, the pictures. His store also has beautiful morganite options as well.

My engagement ring and two bands all together will be around $1000 and that is a number I can live with, not to mention being probably 10% the cost of a similar diamond ring...

I’ll have to check out his shop. That’s why I started looking into alternatives. I fell in love with a $5,000 diamond ring that was basically all diamond for the price, and I just can’t spend that kind of money on a rock.

I felt the same. Between not wanting to invest that much in jewelry and not wanting to be scared to wear it, I knew diamonds weren't the best options for me. I also loved so many other beautiful stones but, being a super practical person, I wanted something durable and strong enough to withstand daily wear but also something that I wouldn't feel clashed with my other jewelry/clothes. Since moissanite is second only to diamond in hardness, all man made so practically flawless, and clear so it goes with everything, this lead me to moissanite over others like morganite or alexandrite, Combining that with rose gold which is again, copper mixed and more scratch resistant, plus said to go well on all skin tones and mixes well with yellow and white metals... felt like a no-brainer for my preferences.

Mine is Morganite!! its probably about 1.5 carat equivalent in size (but its measured in MM) mine came from https://www.stagheaddesigns.com

I should say the one downside to morganite is that to keep it looking this translucent I clean it almost every day (but I got the Diamond Dazzle Stick of amazon for like 4$ and it works perfectly!)

I really like Morganite but it's so trendy. I can tell you I had a ring restored a few years ago with Moissanite. I had it done by an artisan jeweler after several other jewelers turned me down in restoring the ring (it was my great grandmas and in rough shape). It turned out so good. That could be an option, to have a jeweler create a Moissanite ring for you then you can pick whatever size you want.

Your ring is gorgeous! Good heads up on the upkeep though, I don’t have a whole lot of spare time on my hands to clean and shine my ring every day so that’s definitely something to keep in mind.

Mine is a moissanite! I absolutely love it and am taken away every time I look at it. It is a round halo, and I preferred it to be a large stone. It’s from Charles and Colvard, the original moissanite creator.

I’m a little late to this thread...have you picked a ring yet?!

When we went to look at rings, I fell in love with the look of a 3 carat oval diamond (I have long fingers, size 8) but that was never in the cards financially.

Then we went to a fabulous Denver jeweler called Sarah O. which stocks a TON of diamond alternatives. I got a 3 ct equivalent morganite without a drop of pink in it.

There’s definitely upkeep but it’s minimal...just brushing it with soap on a toothbrush works great for me!
