Mother of the Bride Dresses

Beth, on June 25, 2020 at 8:25 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16
I really wasn’t my mom to shine and feel beautiful on my wedding day. She had battled some serious illness in the past few years and although she has gained some weight back (and only in her stomach area in her mind) she is still a size 0/2. She is very uncomfortable in her body and now cannot find dresses her size! She is a beautiful woman- truly stunning. I just want to help her find a dress! Any tips on places to look? The wedding is October 2, so we are past the custom made mark.

My mother in law went to Ross and got her dress off the rack there. They have so many dress racks

I’m so glad your mom is in good health and will be celebrating with you!! My mom is also self conscious (my mom is very beautiful) and I wanted her to feel her best! I send her photos of dresses from David’s Bridal she would look amazing in. She picked one of them and ordered it. David’s Bridal worked with her and if she didn’t like it could return it. She loves it and looks incredible!! My mom loves soft colors so her dress is a champagne/blush that compliments her hair and skin tone. My future MIL also bought hers from David’s Bridal and looks amazing!! Hope this helps!! 👗

Lulus.com had some beautiful options! Both my mom and mother in law ordered there. You could buy a small or extra small and get it altered if needed!

I got my size 00 wedding dress at BHLDN and they have a lot of very pretty bridesmaid/mother of the bride dresses. I don't know if their stores have reopened yet, but if they have and you live near one, I would highly recommend going in for an appointment. I have some body image issues and I thought I would be really anxious the whole time, but it was actually a really nice experience. I know they're doing virtual appointments, but I don't know what that entails. Anyway, I would look into BHLDN. Whether she gets a dress there or somewhere else, if you can find something she likes but is still a little bit too big or doesn't fit quite right in a certain area, you still have enough time to get it altered. Having something tailored to fit you perfectly is almost as good as having it custom-made.

I would try Macy’s. They are easy to order online and return in store if they don’t fit.

I do love me some Ross shopping trips. My wallet doesn’t like them as much, but I love finding dresses, and rugs, and random decor.

Glad you're mom is doing good! You can also try renttherunway.com if you/she didn't want to buy a dress. I've used them several times for multiple occassions. You can find a local tailor in the area if you find a dress she loves and have it altered to fit her, most tailors have a 1 to 2 week turn around time. 99% of the time I have to have anything dress wise altered to fit me. I'm a little disproportionate. You have plenty of time to find her something Smiley smile Best of luck, and congrats!

Personally, I love Macy's and found two great MOB options there. If she has trouble finding something off-the-rack that fits well, she might try Azazie. It's online, but she can order sample dresses to try on and once she makes a decision she can order with custom measurements. Typically, even custom sizes only take about a month, including delivery. Good luck! Smiley heart

You would have plenty of time to have one made if you ordered from Etsy. Lots of shops make custom dresses and they can ship it quickly.

Azazie has a good selection of any dresses that are perfect for any wedding, whether it be for your bridesmaids, yourself, or even your own mum.

Anyway, Azazie has an entire section on their website dedicated to Mother of the bride dresses, hope that helps.

Update: she found a dress at David’s Bridal! She went with a bridesmaid dress and we are going to jazz it up with some jewelry and upgrade the belt. Mother of the Bride Dresses 1
