I feel like I need to give some really brief backstory to explain this, so I apologize. So my fiancé and all his siblings have a really bad relationship with their mother. She did a lot of not great things to them. Their step dad and oldest sister more or less was the one that taught them everything they needed to know to be wonderful human beings. I love all his siblings that I've met so far (there's a lot between the blended family and his mom's life style). ANYWAY, he's only known my mom as long as he's known me so it's only been a few years. He's still adapting to having a good relationship with a mother figure. My folks are always there for both of us and treat him like a son.
But here's my issue. I'm trying really hard to figure out a good mother/son song and a lot of them have all these lyrics about watching the child grow and all that. I feel like given the context, and the fact he'd have to dance with my mom, that might be a little weird. Is there something more generic that is kind of an "I'll be there" type of song that doesn't sound like it's exclusively between romantic partners (other than The Four Tops, seems to upbeat). I guess I put a lot of thought into the lyrics of songs that are going to be "showcased" dances for a reception lol.
The other option is to leave the mother/son dance out entirely if that's what he decides he wants. He's still thinking about it.
Thanks everyone!
Edit: I should probably add, types of genres would probably be classic rock, Motown, some R&B, pop, ect. For some of the other songs on our lists, I have Ed Sheeran, Alicia Keys, Marvin Gaye, Mark Ronson, Stevie Wonder, Eric Clapton, Grover Washington Jr. No Rap. No raunchy lyrics. Trying to consider the audience. Hope that helps kinda?
