Motivation and Workouts....

Hilleigh19, on February 4, 2017 at 5:59 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 23

Hello. I am having trouble staying motivated with my work outs but I am 5 months away and need to stay on it. Any tips on how you are staying motivated? Or is anyone interested in starting some kind of accountability group? Thanks for you advice.

Also, if there are any workouts you swear by and have seen results, I would love to hear. I don't need to lose a ton of weight but want to tone up. Thanks!

I just finished 21 Day Fix with a group of ladies. One of the "Must Do" assignments on your very first day was to take a pic of yourself ... wearing a swim suit ... and share it with the group :/

I didn't skip a single day. Smiley smile

So ... having shared that experience, I say take pics of yourself (front, back, side) in a swim suit or bra/underwear. Then take your measurements : neck, bust, waist, hips, upper arm, thigh. Weigh yourself too. Do this on day one then remeasure every 20 to 30 days.

    THIS is GREAT motivation!!!!!

I'm also a 21 day fixer. I say find a friend to work out with. Mines a co-worker and we do a great job keeping each other accountable. We also workout after work together each day!

I like to go heavy. Dead lifts and squats are my favorite. If you can, join a fitness class. Group workouts are great motivators. Once you make friends with like-minded individuals you will look forward to going to class so you can hold each other accountable Smiley smile It only takes 21 days to make a habit. You can do it! I did Betty rocker's make fat cry challenge. It's free, 15 minutes every day for 30 days. She emails you the video every day and it expires in 24 hours so you have to do it that day. That kept me motivated to keep going. I definitely see results. Probably would have better results if I had better eating habits but.... I don't. Smiley smile

Check out the Girls Gone Strong programs. They have free videos and programs you can purchase for home use. Not to mention they have great attitudes and motivation for everyone.

I like group classes because they make me work much harder. Also they sometimes make you sign up in advance so you can't ditch without losing the money. For what you're looking to do, maybe barre or a weight/body weight boot camp?

I stay motivated because I know if I don't lose weight, my mom would forever criticize me (posted a thread about this a couple weeks ago)

Plus, I try on my old jeans back in college and I realize how much weight I've gained.

I have diligently watched my eating habits and i just realized that I am stress-eating! That has helped tremendously. I used the stairs up to the fifth floor at my workplace whenever I can. I park farther in the parking lot so I am forced to walk. On my days off, I use the treadmill and rowing machine (great for abs).

I have had great success with hiring a trainer- when I'm paying somebody to help guide me with workouts/workout plans I stick to the plans better.

There are a bunch of online challenges you could also try. One I follow is ToneItUp, they are just wrapping up a 6 week challenge, but they have frequent ones throughout the year, and I really like their daily workouts.

I have been going to the gym consistently since October. The key for me has been going with someone else (my friend has been holding me accountable) and our workout is short (45mins).

I'm trying to get into running, and I've found that having an app on my phone to record my runs motivates me. Whenever I log into it and see how long it has been since my last run I either feel really proud of myself, or I get an unpleasant reminder that I've been slacking off. It makes me feel much more accountable to myself.

I was a trainer for years. I like to do the old insanity and p90x classes I used to teach. Spin classes are great as well. If you can get into running, it's motivation in itself. Improving your distance or time is always a goal. Also, lift. Lift. Lift.

Motivation is the thong bikini I'm wearing on my honeymoon next week.

So my motivation is definitely my wedding and I am in an accountability group with friends where you lose and gain points. We all put money in and the first person to like 300 points wins. On days that I don't want to workout I watch weightloss shoes like "My 600 lb life" or I found this other show call "Fat Chance" on TLC. Definitely makes me want to workout. Also, seeing non scale victories. I really hate weighing myself, so I focus on how my clothes are fitting. I have gone down a pants size and can fit in some jeans I haven't worn in a year. I want to go down one more size by the wedding, so that is motivation to step my game up for the next 5 weeks.

ETA: I just started lifting using Strengthlifts 5X5 and I love it! It really makes me feel so strong and sexy after each workout.

I pay for an unlimited membership that is damn near $100 a month so I can have access to all types of classes - barre, Pilates, cardio, boxing. I sign up for classes each week and if I cancel within 24 hours I get slapped with a fee.

    Been going consistently since October.

Clearly, money is a huge motivator for me lol.

I go to the gym 2-3 times a week and I started bringing my mom because she wants to work out but doesn't know where to start. Bringing her is good motivation for me because I want her to see good results more than I do myself lol. I have also started taking a Zumba class once a week with my coworkers; it's really fun and we all motivate each other.

Google Dietbet I am doing a Transformer, lose 10% of your weight in 6 months. You put in $25 a month in the pot and at the end of each month you weigh in. If you make your weight for the month you get a cut of the pot. If you don't make weight, you lose your money for the month. At the end of the 6 months you can win about $275-300 (put in $125). I think it is a great motivator and you get accountability with the online community. I have definitely won more than I lost.
