Moving dates?

Kaitlyn, on December 21, 2020 at 9:24 AM Posted in New Jersey Planning 0 5
Hi everyone! So my fiancee and I are nervous about our October 1st 2021 wedding. We don't want to have the wedding outside, with masks, or to have to cut down on the guest list. We've talked to the venue about moving dates as there's nothing in our contract that says we can't do so and the venue is giving us a hard time about it. They're saying they are just talking about moving March weddings now and wouldn't be looking at October until the summer. I don't want it to be July/August and then we have to scramble to get everything changed to the new date and possibly lose some of our vendors. We've also been hit hard this year with finances and would have to be scraping to buy toilet paper over the next few months if we kept the date. Has anyone else run into this problem with the venue not budging?

I'm from NJ too and the venue we were supposed to have our 92 person wedding at was Massos in glassboro. They said we could still go through with our May 9th wedding but cut down to 50 guests. We were so shocked because we are in the middle of a pandemic and we don't know 50 people who would risk their lives to attend. After arguing and having a consultation with a lawyer, the venue and us came to a understanding and we lost our 1000 deposit but they are paying us back in increments the rest of the 6800. We didnt postpone. They offered us the option but we wanted our money back. We did get married May 16 with 7 people and we were okay with that. And it sounds so frustrating what you're going through.

My FH and I talked briefly about possibly having to get our lawyer involved if they don't work with us. I just see it as a risk I'm not willing to take. We'd lose our $3400 deposit unfortunately 😔 but it is what it is at that point.

Oh that is so stressful. Cost us $150 for a consultation with a lawyer and he gave us legal advice we could use with Massos. Because in the contract they cant provide us with the services we paid for due to unseen circumstances so luckily we got refunded. Losing that 1000 deposit hurt us tho. All that refund money we are using to buy a house. Best of luck to you!

I'm so sorry Kate! Have you asked if there's a postponement fee you can pay to move the date ahead of their schedule??

You're definitely not the only one facing these struggles, here are a few discussions you can check out from other couples dealing with similar situations:

To be honest they are probably giving you a hard time because that is so far out. I know its difficult but I would wait until about three months before to move your date. Because truthfully everything could be improved by then and you can have it as normal. Our venue was the one who caused us to have to cancel our wedding, we did everything in our power to work with them and ultimately they made it impossible for us to have our original date or to postpone and wouldnt refund. We consulted with a lawyer and everything and still couldnt get our money back. All that to say if I could have had our original date without all those problems I would have, so try to hang in until you absolutely have to postpone
