Moving out of state after getting married

Mrs!, on October 22, 2018 at 7:11 PM Posted in Married Life 1 18
Is anyone else moving out of state right before or after getting married? Me and my FH are going to be moving out of state a few months before our wedding, which will be a destination wedding for us, and all of our guests. Feeling sad about leaving our home state but we can’t afford to live here so we have options picked out for the end of next summer when we move (where we live it is super hard to afford it here). We are moving about 5 hours away.

Wow what a relief I’m glad I’m not alone! Would you mind if I asked a few questions? How long have you guys been together? Do either one of you have family in Virginia, and if so, is it your family or his? Does all your guys’ family live near New York City? What made you guys decide to move? Around what age will you both be when you move? How are you handling all of this??? Smiley xd for me, we will have been together for EXACTLY 7 years on our wedding day Nov 2 2019 (so in a year from now). Where we are moving, none of our family lives there. All of our friends and family lives where we currently live. We are moving because we financially can’t afford to live here. When we move I’ll be just shy of turning 24 (but I will be 24 at our wedding) and my FH will be 23 and a half. I’m just a tad older lol! I’m not handling this well, but I know it’s for the best. Just trying to cope...

We have a history of 32 years we dated from 1994 to 1999 we was engaged to be married but the time wasn't right I had to do alot of growing on my part, also there were other circumstances. It will be 9 years that we are back togther in January. His daughter lives in Virginia I have family in Virginia but I don't know them. Honestly more family on both sides live in NYC. I will be 9 days short of my 50 birthday and he will be 53. It will be an adjustment for me. It will be a change of lifestyle for me.

Thank you for responding. Did you guys have any family that lived in CO? Or was it just the two of you? And what made you guys decide to move?

Some times you have to go left and make mistakes( love) to finally get it right. I thank God for my FH he is definitely my other half and he makes me a better person.

No family, he just always had this dream to live near the mountains and he got out of the army this year and wanted to move there. He is going to school for computer programming and I am a teacher. I only went bc we were engaged. I wasn’t going to leave my family, friends, and career as a girlfriend. Now we are engaged and it’s still hard but I just remember that I am choosing my new family and my new future, and I do really like it out here.

That is such a beautiful way to describe it. Don’t judge me but me and my FH moved out of state together only for a short time it’s a long story but I was just the girlfriend lol. But I loved how you described it! Thank you for sharing Smiley smile

Omg girl I am not judging. I’m 28 and I’ve been through a lot with him and with other guys in the past and I just had to have my limits.

We moved from Illinois to Utah last December and then got engaged in July so not right before the wedding but a little over a year before we're having the wedding. Now our wedding is a destination wedding for everyone but ourselves as we've decided to have it here in Utah instead of in either of our hometowns.

We moved not too long ago to Washington from Texas to be closer to his family. We're having our wedding back in Dallas though because that's where the majority of our friends are and it's closer for my family. Planning wise, it's been ok so far. Life wise, big adjustments, but I don't regret the decision at all. FH's parent's passed before we met and I'm happy that we can be near his sister and her family.
