MUA/hairstylist question

jessie, on January 8, 2016 at 11:19 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 11

I've found some promising MUA/hairstylists for my wedding (largely thanks to you ladies!)

My question: Did you have one person do your hair and makeup or one person to do hair and another to do makeup? Right now I'm deciding between someone who would be just on her own, and hiring a separate mua and hairstylist.

I don't have a huge wedding party - it's just me, my MOH, my mom (who will only be getting makeup) and potentially my fmil. I've heard that the time just FLIES when you're getting ready so maybe it's better to have separate people working? Or is it better to have one person so it's a more fluid look?

My FH's aunt is a hair stylist so I have her on hair and I'll be doing my own makeup. My girls will do their own as well. a couple of brides I know did their own makeup and hired only a hairstylist.

I can't imagine doing my own makeup -- i don't know how to do much more than apply mascara and moisturizer!

I would definitely recommend having two different people. It will allow one person to get her makeup done while the other is getting her hair done and you'll be more confident that the hair stylist and MUA are specialists in their areas and not "jacks of all trades."

I would use separate. That is a lot of people getting ready and it will take longer than you think.

The place I put down a deposit for has one artist (hair and makeup) per 5 applications. So I would count for 2 applications...and so on. I think 2 people working on 6 of us is plenty. They quoted us 4 hours.

I'm a cosmetologist, and most folks opt to get both done. For larger groups, I bring an assistant or two who do prep for me (i.e. setting and pinning curls, prepping skin for makeup application, etc.). For really big bridal parties, it will generally be 2 stylists plus an assistant or two.

The most I like to do sans any assistants, assuming hair and makeup is 3-4 people (assuming one of those people is the bride, otherwise I can do up to 5). Ask the person you're booking with - most experienced stylists/muas will have an assistant or additional stylist they can bring in when the job requires it. Better to let them bring in their own people if they feel it will be needed than hire two separate stylists who arent used to working with each other and may not have the same style or methods.

I am having two people for my day...my mom and I plus one BM getting both hair and makeup done and then 2 other BM's and one FG getting hair only. The two stylists do both hair and make up though, so it's not necessarily one assigned to hair only and one to make up only.

My DW went to a salon that had it's own hair and makeup artist, so she had two different girls work on her.

I had one woman doing hair and one doing makeup, but hired both from the same company. The hairstylist was the business owner, and the makeup artist was one of several people who worked for her.
