Megan, on June 13, 2017 at 9:47 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Thinking of having the dj play very softly some instrumental music during the toasts. Any one have experience with this?

Seems like it could be difficult for some guests to hear the toasts, depending on the acoustics of your location. Then again, it could be useful. The DJ could do like at awards shows and if the speech drags on too long, start turning the music up. "{soaring music} Thank you so much! The next toast..."

In my experience, no music is best. But, to each their own! :-)

Definitely don't do music. You want people to hear what they have to say. Music may be a distraction.

Thanks ladies!! My reception is in a wedding tent in a large field next to the ceremony venue. My worries was what you ladies pointed out. The can you hear over the music .... even if it is played softly? And I most def do not want it to be a distraction.

I wouldn't. Both me and my mom have a lot of trouble understanding, if not hearing, what is being said with background music a lot of the time, and I know a few other people who don't have any hearing issues who find the same thing.

I agree, skip the music. My mom's side of the family all have hearing issues (hearing aids and everything) and it can be really difficult to distinguish between sounds when there is too much going on.
