Has the church told you if there are any restrictions, and do you know what the organist prefers and/or is skilled in playing? That can make a huge difference. Some churches will only let you choose from a narrow range of more traditional options, and depending on the type of organ and the organist's skills, some music will sound much better on an organ than other music will. I've heard organ music played on different types of organs by different types of musicians, and there can be a big difference in the options. (I've heard elderly "church lady" organists from whom everything sounds like a funeral march -- even when it's NOT, and I've heard an extremely talented and passionate young musician who literally received a standing ovation when he finished because the music was truly glorious and inspiring.)

We are getting married in a church as well and this is what will be played at our ceremony:

    1. Seating of the parents/grandparents: Clair de Lune

    2. Bridal party processional: Canon in D

    3. Entrance of the bride: Bridal March – Vincente Avella

    4. Unity Ceremony: In Christ Alone

    5. Recessional: Prelude in Classic Style

Our musician will be alternating between piano and organ depending on the song since some songs sound better on different instruments. All of our music has to be live and cannot be recorded. Our music has to be approved by the wedding coordinator, who I'm actually meeting with today so I'm hoping to get the green light!

This is what our policies and procedures guide says, so make sure to check with your church to see if there are any restrictions:

"The wedding is a service of worship. All music played or sung during the wedding should express a Christian message appropriate to the occasion. The selection of all music is accomplished through consultation with the Wedding Program Director who will provide final approval of all wedding music. All music must have live accompaniment, therefore the continued Wedding MINISTRY services of a musician are included. There will be no taped or pre-recorded music."

    Hi Colleen!

I would talk to your organist and see if they have any suggestions that can help guide you in choosing your ceremony music.

Are you looking for something more contemporary or traditional?
