Must Have Registry Items

Emily, on April 19, 2020 at 7:03 PM Posted in Registry 0 12
Hi all! Like most of you myself and my FH have already been living together for a few years so we have a lot of the basic household items. What are the must have items you recommend putting on your registry? I’d go without one but I know a lot of people prefer to have the option of just clicking and buying a gift they know you want (I do when I attend weddings)

    Hi Emily!
My fiancé and I chose to upgrade a few things and register for some things we’d never splurge on for ourselves. For instance, I registered for (and we received) a blanket with our names/wedding date on it, a vintage globe, and a fancier stainless steel trash can from bed bath & beyond. We have gotten lots of gift cards/checks also, but like you said we have guests that prefer to know exactly what they’re getting you. We also set up an amazon registry and with that the possibilities are endless! We added so many different things, all the way from furniture to board games. It’s actually kind of fun and interesting to see what people have chosen to get us! Some of the favorites we’ve received have been an electric wine bottle opener and some new decor for our home. I encourage you guys to think outside the box and register for anything you might want, it doesn’t have to be conventional!

We registered for upgrades on appliances and furniture, organizers/storage for the closets and basement, a ring dish for my wedding ring... We registered too for some items that aren’t exciting but needed like an upgraded trash can, filing cabinet for all our filing/documents, and a paper shredder. Of course you can’t go wrong with gift cards as well!

We used MyRegistry so we could add gifts from whatever website we want. Sam’s Club is great for gift cards (we picked out gift cards to our favorite date night spots) because they’re often discounted.

Thank you for the advice! I didn’t even think of things like board games. I think that’s a really good idea. I need to look through our kitchen and think of things we could upgrade or helpful gadgets we wouldn’t typically purchase!

Oh that’s a good idea too to add gift cards to a registry! What was the highest price item you put on your registry?

Have you considered starting a honeyfund instead? For my fiancé and I we haven’t bought our home yet for after marriage so we have no idea about what we would need. We are doing a honeyfund instead which allows guests to help us fund our future honeymoon! (2021/2022)
Check it out and see what you think!

So I looked into that and the only thing I didn’t necessarily like about it is the few when you “cash out”

That’s a good range! Our highest item right now is $150. I’m trying to get more items around the $50 range

No problem! We also tried in the last few months before the showers to add anything that either of us said “I wish we had a _______ right now” and we ended up getting lots of things we didn’t think of initially!

I wish I thought of putting stuff like an instant pot or a paper shredder or a safe! But I did mostly put kitchen items and I had a separate honeymoon fund

My husband and I were in the same boat— we had lived on our own for awhile already so we had most of the essentials already.

We registered for small things we wanted to upgrade like salt and pepper grinders or some bar glasses. We did a few splurge items like a Dyson air purifier and le creuset cookware items. The best thing we got though was a cuisinart toaster oven/air fryer combo. It has been clutch during quarantine since its fairly big, but the perfect size for baking/frying/heating things for a meal for two.

We lived together for several years before getting married. We registered for things like upgrades (nicer pots and pans, new glass storage containers because I wanted to move from plastic, etc) and some splurges like a bar cart. Pretty much all of the registry gifts were purchased for the shower. At the wedding, everyone but 1 guest gave cash or a check in a card (one of my parent's friends actually venmoed me the money lol) rather than a physical gift. That's the norm in my area, which is why I don't really like honeyfunds. They charge fees to either the gift giver or reciever for a service that is kind of redundant (no added fees to give cash or a check).

One thing I found helpful in building the registry is whenever I'd be in the kitchen or doing something around the house and went "ugh, I really wish I had a....." I'd make a note to add it to the registry. I found that to be more useful than just looking at the online checklists.
