My bustle needs your help!!!!

Libby, on June 27, 2017 at 8:17 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

So, I had no idea that I might need to research bustles before going into my first alterations appointment. Then I went in and they showed me two different options for my bustle and both of them were AWFUL. I only have one set of pictures for the one style. But the other one kind of poofed out like peacock feathers. Can someone please help me and tell me where this is going wrong, give suggestions? Maybe by the grace of God, someone else might have had the same dress as me and has a picture of their own bustle? It’s from David’s Bridal – WG3838. It’s an organza A-line dress with a chapel train. So for now they are holding off on the bustle while I look at options. My wedding is in 38 days. See attached pictures.

Try having your bustle tucked under and have the hook on your arm like a bracelet .... this is how I got mine . My train won't drag and it's looks cute on my wrist

That's an underbustle, which I don't completely love. Google overbustles, I'm probably going to have a 3 point over bustle. They have their own distinct look, so Idk if it'll be better for you.

I think the French would look gorgeous if they did something more like this..

To me it looks like the seamstress doesn't know what she's doing. No offense. But I think your dress would make a gorgeous French bustle but it's too straight across. I think it needs more of an arch like the pics I posted.

Thanks for the feedback! Chelsea, those bustles look amazing! They keep telling me that other bustles won't work for my dress and that I only have two options. They have to lift the sides too otherwise they drag on the floor. When she lifted just the center the sides poked out in two points. When she lifts those two points up then it turns into a peacock.

I'm a professional seamstress and I have done tons of bustles. For your style of dress I would definitely recommend an over bustle. Probably a three-point if you're saying it's poking out in certain places they may have to do a 5. Definitely take it to a different alterations place for a second opinion. Bridal stores also tend to charge more for alterations, you can take it to an alterations place that has good reviews and save some money too!

The one they are doing has NINE points. The lady whose feet you see in that last picture said shes never seen a bustle that has less than 5 ties.

That's the other thing. I was told the bustle was $55. Then they do it and it turns out its $55 for the first 3 ties and then $7 for each additional. So my bustle ends up being about $100.

Honestly that looks really horrible... I think I would skip a bustle altogether and get a little loop that you can put on your wrist

Underbustles can have more points. Typically I only do that style for fit n flare or mermaid silhouettes like the ones shown in the pictures that the other ladies shared. Per point is a typical charge and can range from $10-25 per point usually because they are hand sewn. $100 isn't a bad price, but please don't feel you have to pay it for a bustle you aren't happy with.. Your day is too special and there will be so many pictures of the back of your dress, you don't want to cringe every time you see it!

Christine, Where would you put each of the three points? Would they all spread out? The dress has a heavier bottom layer they say, so they say even if they do the top layer as an over bustle, they would still do the bottom layer as an under? Most dresses have multiple layers, how do bustles usually work when there are layers to a dress?
