My cousin wore white to my bridal shower

persimonefink, on July 12, 2018 at 1:56 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 17

But I didn't even have time to get mad cause my bridesmaids side-eyed her for me. She recently got engaged-- but I personally think that's an avoidable faux pa. Either way-- I just came to post about how awesome my girls are.

Unless she showed up in a white gown, it's not a faux pas for a shower. Quite frankly, a gown in any color would be weird for a shower.

It was a floor length lace dress.

What is your relationship like with your cousin? Do you think it was ill-intended?

I really doubt she did it specifically to offend you.

Well, yeah, that's pretty side eye worthy. I'd let it go. If anyone brings it up, I just shrug and say something like "stuff happens"

Plenty of people wore white, beige, ivory for my shower. I think it's just what people want to wear in the summer-heat-tropical-outdoors. I never doubted their love for me and it was certainly clear I was the bride. Of course you're the one who lived it but I honestly think your guest was just clueless. Who would really intentionally upstage the bride by wearing white? Every time it's happened it's usually someone who isn't aware of the tradition and it's sad when they have people staring them down.

Completely agree. And I think that was rude on your bridesmaids part to do that to her.

We're usually great- but I didn't invite her to go dress shopping with me (for my actual wedding dress) and she actually made a comment about that like she was offended. When she saw me she tried to blame her mom and was like oh I hate this dress but it's all I had. I made no comments to her or anyone else. But my bridesmaids came up to me and weren't happy about it.

That's a little odd but, I wouldn't sweat it. There are way to many other things to think about this close to October.

It's a dress, not something to stress over. She likely meant no offense.

I personally think it's disrespectful. I hope she doesn't do this to you on your wedding day.

Um, I am ok with white to a shower. That is not a biggie. I like to wear white, especially in the summer when I am tan and look super awesome in white...lol.

NOW, a floor length white gown...for real? That is a bit odd to say the least. Like a Boho style long lace skirt or a full blown floor length diva gown. I am trying to wrap my head around the look.

Ahhhh, good bridesmaids will always take care of the side eye for you!

It's summer time. She probably didn't even think about it for the shower since the bride doesn't necessarily always wear white to a shower. I wouldn't let this hang over you.

I personally think its very rude to wear white to another brides shower. I attended a shower for another couple immediately after mine and I was sure to change dresses.

My bridal party actually all wore white dresses to my shower and I wore a coral dress. I didn’t care to wear white to any pre wedding events. My wedding dress wasn’t even white, it was ivory and champagne. I wouldn’t sweat it, don’t let it bother you.

Just to follow up-- I'm at a point where I don't care that she wore this particular dress/color, but I am happy to know that my best girls are on my side about it. It was a weird move in what was already an emotional day. But its over.
