My destination wedding is Jan 2022, save the dates went out today

Debbie, on June 7, 2021 at 6:34 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11
Hi ladies. Was curious if anyone has advice on rsvp requests that come from save the dates. Not the actual wedding invite. I sent mailed out save the dates pointing to the site where my idea is to say something on “please respond here by rsvp if you can join” and is it ok to give a mi th or two for this first round of rsvps? Then only send invites four months out to those who confirmed ? Does this sound okay or just not something that’s done and not expect ppl to rsvp in a month to the save the date?

People typically do not RSVP to Save The Dates. It's just an advance notice of the date so guests can hold that date open on their calendars if they choose. People usually only respond to the actual invitation 6-8 weeks before the wedding. Even if they RSVP now, their response may change as time gets closer (either as something comes up and they can no longer make it, or plans change and they're now able to attend).

It’s typically not expected to rsvp to a save the date. It was nice to send them in advance being a destination wedding, but I wouldn’t expect people to rsvp until 4-6 weeks before the wedding.

I wouldn’t expect people to be able to tell you whether they can go to a wedding 7 months from now. You might get a few people who say no right away, but most RSVPs won’t be a definitely until 1-2 months before the wedding. We had friends that had a destination wedding a few years ago and people were still booking or cancelling their deposit on hotel rooms 3-4 weeks before the wedding.

Yea that’s what I thought .. I wonder if I should try anyway to ask for a reply in two months. Then another official rsvp to the invite.thank you!

We only had a handful of people say they were coming to the STDs. Since you’re having a destination wedding, I’d send the invites out 8 weeks prior.

I've never heard of having 2 rounds of RSVPs, and I've been invited to and attended many destination weddings. I would definitely plan to send formal invitations to everyone who you sent save the dates to

Why do you need to know so soon about whether people are coming to your wedding in six months? I'm genuinely not sure how this would help you?

Save the dates are just a heads up to guests that a formal invitation will follow.

Save the dates do not require rsvps , and people can’t rsvp to an event so far out as most dont actually know their availability yet. Even if they replied now, many of their replies would change. Even if they replied now and said NO, you still send an invite to them (and some may ultimately be able to come afterall!). Anyone who receives a save the date must also get an invite . So trying to collect responses now would be pointless— an rsvp today for an event in January is basically meaningless.

Like actually if you have an rsvp page on your website , I’d actually turn that feature off for now, so no one can rsvp , as it would only lead to confusion down the road!
