My DIY Lace invitation! Need ideas!

tania, on July 11, 2013 at 12:47 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 19

Hello, here is a sample pic of the lace I'm using to wrap around my pocket fold card. Any ideas on how to bind the edges of the lace together as neatly as possible? In the pic below the crease is in the back. So confused and need ideas... thanks!!

Oh and the second pic...what do you guys think without the lace?

These are beautiful invitations! Could you use double sided tape to attach the lace?

Could you trim the lace, or get thinner lace, to create a belly band rather than covering the whole pocketfold? I think that would look really nice.

I agree with Emily. I was going to suggest it being more narrow. Also double sided tape will work on fabric. I used it to secure ribbon around mine.

The Therm o web tape runner is the best one i've used. They have refills for them too. I think you can usually get them at Joanns or Papersource stores or anywhere online.

Making the lace narrow will take away from the elegance in my opinion. I want to keep it at the length. Worst case u can trim a little not too much

    Love it!

I love the wide lace, it fits with the square little invitation.

Any chance you could maybe iron it gently under a tshirt? Just do the whole roll.

Where did you order that lace by the way?

What I did was fold over the edge to get a clean, smooth look, like wrapping a present.

Try fabric glue. Practice on scraps to get the right amount and dry time. If you want to cover the crease and add more area for the glue to adhere to, try putting a thin coordinating ribbon over the crease/seam on the back (doesn't have to be expensive, just the right color). It will give it a really finished look. BTW, I love your idea. It's looks beautiful.

@quailwife the pic was just a sample just the first part is wrinkled. The main invitations would of course be ironed. Folding - that's great idea! Thanks! I got the lace from lucys buckles. She only has that lace in nude color. http://lucysbuckles.com/shop/

@The centerpiece Flowers thank you! Smiley smile I don't want to add a ribbon but if I add more fabric glue it will cover the crease?? really? it won't look gueyyy or messy?

I would wrap it just like you have it and stop at the flap of the envelope so it can be opened. Then put the little pearl embellishment at the edge like you have it in the second pic.

Let me know how it looks. I can visual it! LOL The fabric adhesive I think is so you can stick the lace to the paper. There are some spray one that I think will be your best option.

@marlina ohhh..I don't want it to stick to the paper. I wanted to attach the lace in the back so you just slip out the invitation. So basically the lace will be bonded together covering the entire card.
