My Dress Is ITCHY - Please help.

cantwait4thedate, on June 16, 2017 at 4:09 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 34

So, I got my dress in last week, but didn't really try it on. I tried it on last night and the lace is so damn itchy I cannot stand it. It not only itches my body, it itches my arms on the outside when I put them down. I dont know what to do, but from the style I dont think I can put a layer of anything between the lace and me.

ETA: I removed the pics of the dress since apparently I bought a knockoff. ANY IDEAS? Argghh, I love it, but may have to use a different one!!

Would getting it pressed and steamed help? Maybe a tailor can help you?

It's because the fabric is "new" and isn't broken in. Had this same problem with a BM dress a year ago. Get it washed and cleaned it will help but make sure you take it to someone who knows what they are doing and is an expert with wedding dresses getting cleaned

Can you ask the shop you got it from and see if others had the same complaint?

Wash it- or have the shop wash it.

I was super picky with my lace because my skin is so sensitive. When I was researching, I'd see where several people had some of the lace removed right under their arms so it didn't rub/itch. Not sure if that could be an option? Or maybe your seamstress can recommend something.

Unfortunately I didn't buy it from a local shop, so I cant have them do it. I was really worried about washing it since it is so much lace, and was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and fixed it.

You should be able to wash it by hand using woolite in your bathrub- but you can take it to a dry cleaner as well.

@Corey, it is not a Maggie dress (I wish). @Chelsea, I am glad someone else likes it as much as I do!!

@Corey that photo you shared IS a maggie dress - if you didn't buy it from a Maggie dealer, you bought a dupe

REALLY?? I had no idea, I certainly didn't pay Maggie prices. Now I know why it was so cheap. SORRY MAGGIE!!

ETA: Yep, I just found almost the exact same Maggie dress pic on Google. WELL CRAP! I bought it from a company in the UK.

It is beautiful, but i am sure the REAL Maggie wouldn't be so itchy! ARGHH, well the damage is done so I guess I need to make the best of it. It's also a little small, but hopefully I can fit into it in 4-1/2 months.

I paid about $700, so I didn't think it would be a fake since it wasn't SUPER cheap.

@MrsFallBride, without realizing it was a Maggie knockoff, I just thought I was getting a sale dress. I do have another one for a backup, long story short. It is at least 1-2 sizes too big, but maybe I can get it altered, if I can't make the lace work. You are correct, I definitely don't want to be uncomfortable and scratchy. At least I still have time.

I would talk to a seamstress and see what they can do for you -- maybe a lining?

You're kind of stuck with the dress as it wouldn't be right to sell it to some other unsuspecting bride. So maybe try to hand wash it (see instructions) and then have it pressed professionally.
