My Family Can’t Make It

Erin, on November 19, 2020 at 12:31 PM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 15
I’m not really looking for advice or anything, i guess i just need an outlet to just say it. My FH and I are eloping next month, around Christmas. Originally, my parents and my brother were supposed to fly out around Christmas, and his brother is going to be In town as well (which is huge beach is brother is in the Army and had been gone for the last 9 months). But now, with COVID getting worse, their state implemented intense travel bans and restrictions, and they can no longer come (we’re in Colorado, they’re in Vermont). I’m devastated at the thought of doing it without them, but we need to be married in order for him to leave for basic training in February, so we can’t delay in the hopes that something changes.

Thanks. We’re hoping to be able to do a bigger vow renewal in 2022 after we’re kinda settled and know what’s going on (to the best anyone in the military really can) but I really wanted them to be here for the real deal too.

Thanks. It’s definitely now how any of this was supposed to go.

    I get it.

It’s looking more and more that a few of my fiancé’s immediate family won’t be coming to ours. It’s a real bummer.
We are older in life. We postponed once and we don’t want to keep waiting.
Hopefully things will be a lot better for your vow renewal and you can all celebrate together.

We’re planning on doing a vow renewal in 2022ish once we’re more settled. He should be finishing is training in July and we’ll be moving to his duty station, so who knows where it’ll be for now xD

Hopefully. We probably aren’t going to do it in the actual court house, since we can marry ourselves, so as long as there’s cell service we can probably work something out. They did say that if anything changes between now and the last week of December they’ll get a ticket and hop on a plane that day if they need to xD but I don’t see anything changing at the moment.

This happened to us too and I'm not gonna lie... It was hard. My husband had his brother because he lives in the area but I had no family able to come. I zoomed with my mom in the morning and we had a live stream so people felt included but it was still not what I had imagined. Do you have any friends that could be there? That was helpful for me and it really was a great day, even without family. Best of luck to you and I'm so sorry this is happening! ❤️

My husband and I got engaged in june married in july. We did this just for me to get insurance and more money quicker. (He's been in the navy for 7 years) His friend got certified online to marry us. Got the marriage license next day. Our Wedding is May of next year. I didnt want anyone to be there. So i mean my advice is to get it done now then have fun planning later on.

I am so sorry to hear this. Can they attend virtually? I know it is not the same, but it is better than nothing.
