My fiance hasn't met my parents

Latonya, on June 7, 2019 at 11:37 AM Posted in Planning 0 14
I have met my fiance parents but he hasn't met mine. They know alot of him. Knew when we got engaged and etc. I was in the military when we began dating and my schedule was hectic. Then I went into a nursing programs and couldn't miss days. Now I am working and our schedules are crazy. Hes working on my days off. I have two days off that I was going to use to make that dreadful 9 hour drive to meet them before he wedding. I am too old to care about approval of my marriage. Anyone in this situation? Lawd I am dreading this drive.

I don't think it's so much about the approval of the marriage, i just think it would be weird if the first time they meet is at the wedding

I agree that it's not about approval. I think it's basic respect that your parents meet your future spouse before your wedding day, especially if you have any sort of relationship with them.

Good luck! I think it'll be a good time and really happy, even if it's not the typical situation.

I actually don't find it all that weird. We have been together 16.5 years and get married next week. There's a whole lot of family on both sides that we haven't met, respectively. And the first time will be at the rehearsal dinner. Our family lives all over the country. So it is really hard to meet up.

Are you dreading them meeting, or just the drive itself?

I'm kinda in the same situation but it's our parents who haven't met. My Mom wants to do lunch with each set of his parents (they both are divorced and remarried) only problem with that is we live 4 hours from my parents and his Dad but they only live an hour from each other and we live 6 hours from his Mom who lives two hours from my parents. My Mom doesn't want the wedding to be the first time she meets his parents but with us living far away and working full time jobs no one really has the time or want to make the long drives.

The drive....I am going to be so tired at work. I am saving my days off for the wedding. I also just started so it looks tacky asking for days off.

I do think he should meet your parents in person. But since it's such a long drive, would you consider a video call with them? That way you don't have to make the drive, but they can see him and talk to him, for as long as they want.

I hope everything turns out better than you thought! Sometimes we have to just rip off the band-aid. Good luck, girl!
