My florist is retiring!

Private User, on November 15, 2020 at 11:26 PM Posted in Planning 0 10
I was all set with my florist, and then she sent me an email saying she was retiring due to Covid! I had picked her because she is only a few minutes away from my venue. I’m getting married July 17, 2021. Is anyone else doing faux flowers? I think that’s what I will end up doing so I don’t have to worry about them wilting. It’s never dull!

We used Budget Bride - a fake flower company. We spent less than $500 on everything, and you couldn't tell my bouquet was fake.

There are a lot of fake flower options out there, though. It's really a matter of the look you want, and your budget.

But, you would not be remotely the only one doing fake flowers!

I guess Hobby Lobby has some pretty good sales on their florals. I have had multiple people telling me to check them out anyway. My MOH took a flower arranging class in college, and my mom has made wedding bouquets with fake flowers before. I’m sure between the three of us, we should be able to come up with something. I will keep the Budget Bride in mind though! Thank you!

I had considered that, but with us getting married in July, an outdoor ceremony, I just worried that the flowers would wilt. I think we are just going to go with fake flowers. Thank you for the suggestion! 😊

Florists have a ton of experience moving flowers to venues, and usually have cool storage to help preserve them for longer transports, so I wouldn't immediately jump to faux flowers if the only reason is because you are worried they will wilt if you cannot find a florist just minutes from your venue. In our area, local florists and flower farms regularly supply venues 2+ hours away.

For our elopement/minimony, my coworkers got me a gift certificate to a flower farm near where I work, but an hour from where I live. I picked up the bouquet the day before, drove it an hour home in my car, stored it in my fridge overnight, and then drove it 1/2 hour to our venue for the minimony the next day, then walked around with it out of water for a couple hours and it still looked amazing by the time I brought the bouquet back home.

Hi sorry to hear your florist is retiring at such a crucial time for you yet still time to devise a new plan...What state are you in?...My wedding was a destination wedding in AZ...I did a combination of florist shop & regular grocery saved me a ton of money and still had all real flowers throughout...I have lil Experience working for a florist many moons ago I made my own bouquet a small ball shape... The florist shop made my rehearsal dinner cake topper...Both gorgeous...Depending on your state you have time to scope out new florists shops or a grocery...grocers dont be offended their florals are just as beautiful just cheaper...only difference you have more work to do...I had minimal help so being a do it yourselfer was ideal and I still hired a wedding planner(wanted to keep my dress concealed as much as possible until made to the altar) with her expertise adding with my talent made my day pop pop pop...So checkout florists that have decent atmospheres willing to answer your questions listen to you and if you decide to do your own bouquet make that clear to them...AZ as a frequent visitor I researched while in town so when came to ordering which was I think 2 months before my wedding date...a good florist will not only take down date to pickup or deliver they will setup reminder calls to help remind you to make sure there are no changes or changes to be made...Hope this may help a little...You still have time which is a good thing...Best of Luck
