My handwriting: good enough for envelopes?

Carousel, on June 7, 2017 at 10:09 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 47

Or should I look into printing labels or printing the addresses directly on the envelopes?

I actually like my handwriting- I mean I'm no calligrapher but it's legible and I think it's kinda pretty. And I figure not too many people will care about how their address looks when they receive our invitations.

But if my handwriting is too sloppy/hard to read/informal for wedding invitations, I figured WW would be a good place to get unbiased opinions.

Thanks!

    UO- no one cares.

As long as it's legible- that's all that matters.

I ordered matching sticker labels for the return address- on the actual invite envelope and the RSVP b/c lazy- but I hand wrote the recipients address.

I printed the envelopes on the printer. Can pick the font and it looks a little nicer. And my handwriting is horrible. Smiley smile

I'm with Jo... my handwriting is worse than yours but still legible so I'll probably just handwrite them.

When I receive a wedding invitation in the mail idgaf if my name and address looks pretty. I would care if the invitation was handwritten and I would judge them for that, but it's literally just the envelope. Paying someone for calligraphy to write on envelopes or something similar is the biggest waste of money people blow while planning weddings IMHO.

I think printing labels is totally fine as well if you want to do that. No side eye here.

I don't care what it looks like, just make sure it is legible for USPS.

Also, I got really tired of handwriting my place cards, so really consider how much you want to spend time writing things out.

I handwrote our envelopes. I got the little envelope guide so everything was in a straight line, but beyond that, they were envelopes. I wasn't going to lose sleep over it.

You could also order a Lettermate (about $10 on Amazon). It's a template you use to help keep your writing level when addressing envelopes, and it helps you keep everything centered. That's what I plan to use on my STDs, which I'm going to address myself.

Up to you. Agree as long as it's legible do what you want. I personally plan on typing them because I struggle keeping my handwriting constant and my hand/arm cramps easily from holding the pen too hard. But hey, if you can do it, go for it!

It's not bad or anything but I'm also not a fan of the writing

I love my writing but am going to have them printed. I write a lot for my job and get writers cramp fairly easily. Not work killing my hand over. Printing is much easier Smiley smile

Your handwriting is lovely but I agree with PP that you might get tired of all that writing. Labels seem like the way to go.

Just print directly on to the envelopes. If you have a printer at home it should be super easy to configure it to make it work.

No one will notice. As long as it is legible enough to reach the recipient. I know this is frowned upon but I used labels for mine because I can be dyslexic at times and my husbands handwriting sucks!

I made this mistake with my shower thank you notes. I wrote one and even though I was copying the address I still put the street numbers completely wrong on 2...one still made it and the other got returned to us.

It's easy to read but I do think it looks a little informal. But that's just my opinion. I'm sure not many people look at them though

Thanks for everyone's responses/advice. As you could probably see from my OP I'm already aware that no one will care, and that most of our invitees will barely glance at the envelope so it's doesn't really matter.

I'd pretty much decided on hand-addressing, but I was nervous that if I asked friends/family I would get the response "Go for it, your handwriting is just fine" even if the truth was "Girl no, no one can read that shit, print yo envelopes!" Which I knew wouldn't happen here.

I'll make sure to break the task up into manageable chunks so I don't get fatigued and make errors. I'll avoid my lazy plus signs and try to avoid eliding letters. Thanks!

If my only choices were your handwriting and printing the addresses on an envelope, I would go with printing the addresses. It will look neater and more professional and depending on your number of envelopes the cost should be minimal if you can print them at home.

Another more involved idea is to very lightly print the addresses in gray, then trace over them with a nice pen. I did white pen on gold envelopes.

Your handwriting looks great and legible, and you're right--no one will care. But depending on how many invitations you're writing out, it may get tiring. If you do end up writing them out yourself, make sure to get plenty of extra envelopes in case of mistakes!

I definitely do not have the prettiest handwriting ever lol.. but I still handwrote all of mine. My MOH with beautiful handwriting offered to help but I thought as long as it was legible, it'd be fine. I think no one cares.. it's a weird thing for guests to be upset about imo
