My job is making me break out in hives ...

Angela, on November 25, 2013 at 11:05 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 13

What the hell . Ugh I've had a couple instances where I just get hives like crazy on my chest, stomach , neck . Finally went to the doctor after my FH forced me .( Because I'm so stubborn ) and the doctor thinks it's stressed induced hives ! And my blood pressure was so high ! I'm so frustrated . I'm a police dispatcher and to say the LEAST , my job gives me so much stress and anxiety it isn't even funny . When is the paycheck not worth it ?! Because I'm feeling like its not , I really need to cut back on some hours and maybe rethink my career choice . Any tips to get my bp and stress levels down Smiley sad advice ?

Yoga or some type of relaxation techniques. If you are breaking out in hives and your blood pressure is elevated it's time to really look at a job change. It's not worth risking your health for a job. I would definitely try to set a goal to reduce your stress. If at the end of that time you are still breaking out in hives and have high bp its time to find another job. Sorry that you are going through all of this along with planning a wedding.

Soo..I'm in the process of becoming a police dispatcher as we speak. I've been in the process for months. I'm at the psychological testing. I want to message you to speak to you more on this if you don't mind

Wow, I agree about rethinking the job. Mine just stresses me out and makes me bitchy and headaches, but no hives.

Oh I can so relate to job stress and deciding if the paycheck is worth it or not. My job is over-the-top outrageous when it comes to stress. I feel physically sick. It really is too much. My boss feels the same. I need a one year sabbatical to catch my breath. UGH!

Aww no! HUGS!!! I know exactly what you mean of the stressed induced illness caused by the job. I'm an officer and I also dispatch as needed for a crazy town. Although I'm not getting hives or high BP, the stress causes me to get the worse migraines I can think of. As well as my face breaks out. What's making it worse is the wedding planning. Unfortunately the job doesn't get easier. I've seen both the inside and the outside of the 9-1-1 system and I must say it isn't a career for everybody. If your health is at risk, definitely change it. Have u tried EMD or Fire dispatch instead? Stress levels are lower there. Anyway what helps me is leaving work at work and getting my mind occupied on stuff of interest to relieve my mind from negative work thoughts. Good luck.

Oh I'm sorry! I understand that feeling. When I turned 30 I sat down and figured out what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. 12 years in sales had me burnt out. I completely started over, went back to school, and became a licensed esthetician. I make less money, but I'm happy and fulfilled every single day. Figure out what will fulfill you and go for it! It's never too late. The stress isn't worth it.

@Angela C. If I were you, I'd take a short vacation. Even if it's just for a couple of days. This way you can take your mind off of everything and just relax Smiley smile

I feel your pain. I would have walked out on my job several times over the last couple of weeks if we didn't need the money so much. I find that taking sone time out to look after myself makes me feel much better - a bath, paint my nails, watch some tv without feeling like I ought to be doing something else. Just sone time to switch off completely, then some time to look at what other jobs are around! I hope you feel better soon and find the job that's right for you.

That happened to me about two years ago! About a month after I transferred to my new position they were gone, I was breaking out daily. An allergist may be able to help, an h2 blocker would be good. I currently use a medication called Doxepin and it works wonders!!

Many years ago, I had a job that put me on the verge of ulcers. I decided it did not pay enough to wreck my health. Found another job and quit the first.
