My MOH is preggers... but now her dress doesn't fit...ut oh

Megan, on July 28, 2012 at 5:34 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 17

To start things off, I want to make sure everyone understands how stinking excited I am that my MOH, my bestfriend for over 15 years, is pregnant... with a little boy... and I get to be an Aunt! She was married last June and has been trying for a while, and it finally happened. I am so excited for her and her husband (and my nephew..coming this winter!)

Here's my question... she ordered a dress 3 sizes bigger than usual in hopes that she would have enough room for "the girls" and the baby... the dresses came in and we went to try them on this afternoon. In 3 months, I'm nervous the dress won't fit (as is she) and the girl helping us had no idea about alterations. Does anyone have any tips or experience in this? It honestly doesn't look like this dress is going to work without putting in a corset back (which is fine), but I want her to be comfortable. What's a future Aunt to do?

The dress is Alfred Angelo #7069

My MOh was pregnant with twins when she was fitted so they ordered 3 sizes bigger as well, she delivered in May and has lost some weight since babies. Her dress was good except in the breast section, they had to take it in. I say put the corset back in unless you can find something else for comfortable for her.

Think corset back or new maternity dress are your only alternatives.

My MOH was pregnant when she was measured. We got a really flowy dress and she just had them measure her chest...then go up a size.

Unfortuently she had been having trouble getting pregnant, so she ordered a dress 3 sizes bigger than normal in hopes. 3 weeks after the order was placed, she found out she is preggers. She will be 7 months at our wedding, so now at 4 months she has a belly, with 3 more months, shes obviously going to grow. She is the first of us to have a baby, so I really have no idea. I'm thinking the corset is her best option as well, it will give her the ability to make it looser or tighter as she needs.

I already told her that if she's not comfortable, then I will buy her a new dress. She has been my BFF for over 15 years, and practically my sister. I want her standing next to me, even if she's in a sweater and leggings. I just need her there.

thank you for all the tips ladies!

You could try ordering color swatches and putting in a panel for her belly.

Hm... i was 7 months with my youngest at my sisters wedding.. granted I knew about how big i'd be, cause I had twins the first go round... so my dress fit right. If its tight NOW.... it definately wont fit in the belly at 7months.... a new dress might be an option. If this one is paid for, try to sell it.... and maybe then when it gets closer, let her try again. Don't they have sample bumps at some of the stores? hm... Well congrats to her and her hubby... what fantastic news... and its awesoe to be an Aunt! I love ALL my wonderful nieces and nephews (my hubby's niece who is 21 now, just made me a GREAT aunt to a sweet baby boy...lol i feel so OLD at 32 LOL)

One of my BMs will be 6 months pregnant. Since she wasn't pregnant at the time, she ordered her usual size. I called the store (also an Alfred Angelo dress, 7132), but they couldn't change the size (it will arrive in a couple months). Anyway, they had me order a yard of fabric that is supposed to be from the same dye lot ($25). I was told the alterations would be easy to do, but pricey. Could you order extra fabric?

I have a Maid of Honor who will be in a wedding August 4th. The bride ordered black cocktail dresses from white house black market for her bridesmaids. Unfortunately the maid of honor is now 8 months pregnant. What we did was purchase another dress in the same size, and I split one of them in half at the sides and spliced pieces of the other dress into it at the side seams. It worked out great!

Two of my 'maids are hoping to be pregnant when I get married. They are looking primarily at dresses with empire waists, as they'll be more accommodating. Since we are planning on knee length dresses, they are also looking at dresses that are floor length, with plans to alter them to fit a few weeks before the wedding (as they don't want to be very very pregnant and wearing a micro-mini dress to the wedding if they ordered a dress that was knee length to start).

Congratulations on being an Auntie soon!!! & you are a really good friend for being there for your friend, & just saying does not matter what she is wearing as long as she is standing right by you on your special day.. That is what best friends are for ..

now for the dress... Corset, or maybe the store can get extra material same color & just add it?

I have the same thing going. but im really happy for my moh bc she and her husband have been tryin for a while now. Im not too worried about the dress. I know we can find something if this one doesnt fit. she had plenty of room when she tried it on last month. she will only be 5 months at the wedding.

    you will figure something out

    and congrats Smiley laugh

Just let her pick any dress. That's teh easiest and ensures she will be comfortable just give her a colour scheme, you don't want her in pink when the others are in orange,

I might be in the same boat. BFF #1 just found out she's pregnant, but will have popped 5 months before the wedding so good timing on her part. BFF#2 has been trying since before I got engaged (well they both were) so we may run into a similar issue. Its nice to see everyone's suggestions. Good on you though for the positive and supportive outlook!

My MOH is trying to get pregnant now and I'm sure will be by the time the wedding rolls around! (She gets pregnant by just looking at her hubby) She tried on dresses that would flatter a growing belly (she would only be a couple months along by the wedding but she is one of the skinny ladies who looks like she is carrying a basketball under her shirt. She shows so easily!).

The dresses they ended up with worked well for everyone, pregnant or not. Very flowy and gathered in the front just in case she needs some room for her bump!

I think the corset back is the best options. Then you dont have to worry about adding too much or too little fabric. Good luck!

If your MOH is shorter, than it would be easier to cut the fitted part of the dress out raise the skirt and add a sash. Thats what I had to do with my dress. I was 8 months and the MOH for a wedding.

One of my BMs had lost weight when the dress came in, DB let us send it in to exchange for the same dress smaller size. Not sure if AA will do this but it cant hurt to ask. Congrats to you MOH, its a beautiful thing!!
