My theme is Gone with the wind. Need advice

Lonyah, on October 6, 2011 at 11:15 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

My theme is gone with the wind. I can't decide between red BM dresses or green. I will be having red roses and burgundy calla lily. As it stands there is no green anywhere, but that can change. Open to any suggestions.

Lol Ana!!!! They would boycott my wedding. So where do I incorporate the green if I do green dresses?

Hmmm...red, burgundy and green sounds like Christmas gone horribly wrong. In fact, I can't really see the red roses and burgundy calle's. Do you have a pic?

I like the style and color of the green dress, but the color combo is very holiday-ish. Maybe the green style of dress, but in a deep red? Here is a great inspiration board, I'm sure you may have seen. I love GWTW, too, my sister collects memorabilia. It would be awesome to have your photos done to make a "movie poster" for a keepsake, or even as the invitations or Save the Dates.

I think if your theme is Gone With The Wind you should go all out and have your bridesmaides dress like Southern Belles and have them carry cute matching umbrellas, and don't forget the big hats! lol. It sounds tacky but there are ways to make it super elegant. Just don't buy "costume dresses" buy the period authentic ones. And I'd go with green.

I can see where ppl say Christmas colors... but i think it will look pretty.... idk. i guess i'd have to see it and i lOVE that you're wearing a ball gown, SO pretty.... i personally would choose parisols over hats... hats, even with a theme wedding are soooo.....hmmm, noooo, i cant... parisols would be cuter! and then the hair like she has in the movie, with the center part and then long and curly, but kinda pulled back on both sides.. LOVE IT Is the wedding around Christmas?! ALSO love the movie poster idea... but make it a smaller version.. that would be SO much fun to do!!! OH MAN...

Another romantic, but more modern take on the theme:

You can always use the green in the paper details, or jewelry. The leaves and stems provide some greenery to blend them. I think it can be done, without going too Christmas-y. I think there is a fine line between using the movie as inspiration and going too far. Hoop dresses are terribly uncomfortable! I wore one to prom, it was hot and itchy and awful.

The reason Red & Green is "Christmasy" is because people really began going all out for decorating during the Christmas season in the Victorian age. This color combination was very popular during that era. Lush, vibrant, velvets. Purples, and blues as well. These darker, yet lovely shades allowed for things to go longer between washings/beatings without appearing drab. So, depending on how you use the colors and decor, it may not come off very "Christmasy" at all, but Victorian as you intend. I think it will be lovely. Perhaps it may even help to detract from any Christmas feel if you put the BMs in a similar style dress, but in different colors like the dark green, deep royal blue, and maybe a deep purple. I left off the red since you will have the red bouquets, which are gorgeous btw.
