My venue doesn't go with my color palette...

Alyssa, on November 16, 2015 at 10:59 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

So I love my venue, but I don't like the color of the walls or the carpet. The walls are burnt orange, the carpet is a orange and grey floral/leaf pattern, and there are huge wooden pillars a good two feet across. The only thing that works with my theme are the pillars. The ceremony will be outside with the chugach mountains in the background, but the reception will be inside. My theme is rustic and my colors are shades of light purple, blue, and pink. I feel like those colors are going to clash with the walls. I need to find a way to either incorporate or camouflage the orange.

What don't you just incorporate some fall colors- nothing about pink blue and purple scream rustic to me- that seems more like spring/Easter time frame- any way you can shift your palette a little?

I agree with JoRocka, although if you look at her date it is during the spring. I would probably use a deeper purple/plum color because I think that would look awesome with burnt orange, but if you share some pictures it might help!

    Up lighting might help.

We haven't officially picked a venue yet but I fell in love with one anyways (oops!) and the walls are forest green, which doesn't go with the colours I want to use either. It doesn't bother me a whole lot, I think, but up lighting could help or draping if it's in the budget.

But I don't think ANYONE is going even notice the floors - can't really hide those.

There will be burlap and lace on the tables and wood elements involved.

Why would you decide on a color palate before you had a venue? For this exact reason... Good thing you've got time to come up with something more cohesive.

I would straight up just change the colors if you can...when I think rustic I think lace, burlap, but also reds, oranges, and yellows. That's a little fall-ish, so for spring maybe you could think of doing pinks and peaches instead? That at least won't clash with the orange. I think blue and purple should probs be left out.

Can you show us some inspiration photos for your decor so we can see what works/doesn't work, and get a sense of what you're looking for?

I think the venue goes fine with 'rustic'; it's the light colors that don't honestly. I'd change the colors honestly; include more warm colors; ivories, peaches, even purple.

I hope the dog is coming to the wedding!

My wedding is late spring/early summer and rustic. My colors are navy and champagne/taupe or tan. Maybe try something like that? Doesn't have to be fall colors but maybe a navy or darker accent color would work better. Try looking at a color palette wheel. The color on the opposite side of one anther are complimentary. Orange is usually complimentary with purples and deep blues. Maybe go for something like that?

We ended up changing our color palette based on our venue colors. Be prepared to do that, because I think your venue is more rustic than your colors.

You could always do uplighting to change the look of the walls. It's what I'm doing to get the blue U wanted.

I've worked events before that had amazing up-lighting that disguised the walls. I would talk with your venue and see what other couples have done previously. I'm sure you're not the only bride at the venue that has wanted to cover the orange. Can you post some pictures of your inspiration to give us a better idea of the look you are going for?

I've never understood why venues pick such weird colors! We looked at a hotel with bright red carpet with yellow and green leaves. We passed and found a venue that was just as nice with neutral colors (grey)

I had to change my colors because of my venue. There were black drapes with gold filigree and the walls are a shade of ivory. We were going with navy and pale yellow initially. Yeeeeah, I went a different way after we picked that place. lol I would suggest changing them, but if you really don't want to do that, I guess uplighting might work (Only if it's in your budget. I wouldn't do it if it's not.)

My venue colors don't go with my colors either.. we're just using up-lighting to hide the venue colors a bit Smiley smile

Another suggestion is to look at pics on your venues website, if they have them, of other weddings with similar colors to yours. I had that concern and while looking through their pics of weddings they've had I found similar colors to mine that looked just fine. You might be able to get some ideas through there.
