My wedding is in a week and a half and Covid cases are soaring… some family was exposed last week, and I’m pregnant. Any advice? 🙏🏼

My wedding is a week and a half away, and we’re only having 20 people. My sister tested positive for Covid last week, and my mom and brother were exposed to her. They are all vaccinated so they’re not quarantining, and my mom and brother might get tested this week but I think it would be too early to be positive if they caught it from my sister. I’m so nervous, I have two unvaccinated people coming, and I’ll be 11 weeks pregnant at the wedding. Is this a major concern? Should I be considering cancelling? Am I overreacting? Our venue requires masks but we’ll all be eating and drinking at the same table. I would ask everyone to get tested, but I don’t even know what that would do. My sister would probably test positive, but she’s likely not infectious anymore. And it might be too early for my mom and brother to test positive, but they could be contagious. We also have 2 people flying in from across the country the night before, and everyone going works in offices with lots of other people.

I would get most of my $ back, the total is about $15k and I would get at least $10k back depending on how understanding my venue is. Just looking for opinions on this!

I think for peace of mind, you should ask that everyone be tested within 48 hours of wedding, especially because of your pregnancy. By then anyone who has been exposed this week will show as positive or negative. Be prepared to accept that some may be positive and cannot attend your wedding.

I wouldn't cancel at this point, but I would especially ask those who were directly exposed (vaccinated or not) to get a COVID test a day or two before the wedding. Are you able to setup a virtual option in case anyone tests positive?

I would absolutely ask that everyone get tested 1-3 days before the wedding. There are so many cases right now! By then your sister should test negative, and it will definitely be long enough that those exposed will get an accurate test. Like someone else said, maybe you can set up a virtual option for anyone who is positive?

I'm so sorry! I know how stressful this all is, but the health of you and your baby and family has to be a priority. I hope that testing everyone will bring you peace of mind!

    Happy wedding!!

My sister got a rapid test and a PCR, the rapid came back negative and the PCR was positive! So I don’t trust the rapid tests. I’m going to ask that they get tested on Monday or Tuesday, or Wednesday for those not coming to the welcome dinner. What do you think of this message?

    • Hello party people! I hate to be the bearer of bad news but given the rise of Covid cases, we’re asking that everyone gets tested as close as possible to the wedding. I know a bunch of us got tested this week but we want to double check next week in case someone gets infected this week or their test was an early/false negative this week. PCR would be ideal since we know now that the rapid tests can give a false negative. Family members of Northwell employees (thank you Danielle and Gary!) can use their family test centers if needed- seems like a good option because they have a lot of available appointments next week. I think we’d need to do the tests by Tuesday to get results by Friday but I haven’t used this test site before so I’m not totally sure. The venue is also requiring masks as per the NYS requirement, but we’ll be eating and drinking most of the time so we prob won’t be wearing them most of the time. I hope everyone understands and we are really looking forward to a Covid free wedding!!!

Overall, I think the general message sounds OK, though I would maybe rephrase/remove some of the wording:

    • Hello party people! Our wedding is fast approaching, and we're super excited to celebrate with you! We just wanted to send out an update to inform you of the COVID precautions in place to keep our wedding as safe as possible. Given the rise of Covid cases, we’re asking that everyone gets tested sometime next week to reduce the risk of COVID at our wedding. PCR tests are preferred. Please account for enough time so you receive your results before the wedding events. Family members of Northwell employees (thank you Danielle and Gary!) can use their family test centers if needed - they have a lot of available appointments next week. If you need help finding an available appointment or testing site, please let us know! The venue is also requiring masks as per the NYS requirement. Thank you for understanding, and we are really looking forward to a Covid free wedding!!!

This was GREAT wording! Definitely saving this to reference later. Our wedding is around June so there’s no telling what Covid will look like then 😅

I hear you on that! Our wedding is July, and we're in the same boat. We're waiting until time gets closer before making a decision on what precautions to implement (if any). Hopefully things will be in much better shape by this summer!

I didn’t ask for proof in the initial text, but I’ve heard secondhand that some people are agreeing to get tested but will not actually do it. So I want to ask for proof now… is it too late? If not, how’s this wording?

Hi guys! Sorry this is such a hassle, but please text me a picture of your test results before the wedding so I can check your name off- our coordinator will need to see the result before the ceremony otherwise. She’s also enforcing the mask rule so I will bring extra in case anyone forgets!”

I don't think it's too late at all to clarify that you need proof! I would set a deadline so that you're not tracking people down the morning of your wedding to get their results. You could directly reach out on Friday afternoon to whoever hasn't sent you their results by then, and remind them that you need their results by Friday night.

"Hi everyone! It's finally wedding week! This is just a reminder to please get COVID tested sometime this week. Let us know if you need help finding a testing site or appointment. Once you receive your results, please text a photo of the negative result to me by Friday night. We will also have extra masks available at the ceremony if anyone needs one. Thank you for helping us keep our wedding as safe as possible, and we are so excited to see everyone this weekend!"
