OP, realizing that you're being problematic is an uncomfortable feeling. Admitting that you're wrong and have been wrong in the past sucks. But it's necessary in order to learn from your mistakes and become more socially aware. If we all scrolled past as you suggested and didn't express to you how this made us feel, you wouldn't learn. You would continue on, not ever giving a second thought to posing with mustaches and sombreros for laughs.

It's an instinct to get defensive, but just keep in mind that people of color/other cultures are sick to death of being carticatured, and that patience can be rather thin, especially when you're trying to justify your actions instead of understanding where we're coming from.

OP, It's easier to become defensive and say people like me are offensive to you for using words like ignorant because we don't want to admit that about ourselves. I claim my ignorance on a lot of topics but I think the difference between you and me, at least that I can tell from our interactions today, is that I take advantage of learning opportunities without become defensive. No one is an expert on anything. We all have something to learn. It's how we respond to being called out that helps define us.

I am taking all of these things into consideration now, and I apologize to everyone of Hispanic origin that saw this post and were offended.

I can't wait for the outrage from ignorant white folks when a POC hosts a Basic Bitch themed shower and serves under-seasoned chicken and pumpkin spiced lattes with Uggs for favors.

I was actually going to say earlier that if we "white folk" had anything super cool about our culture, I or other people might have partys themed like our neat culture....but there isn't anything fun about the thought of a "basic white bitch" anything. That comment pretty much summed that thought up so Thankyou.

It's mind boggling to me that someone could think this was an appropriate theme. You also shouldn't have planned your own shower- someone could decide to throw you one or you don't get one.
