Nails Gel vs. Acrylic

Brittney, on August 24, 2018 at 8:38 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 28
Attn all nail lovers!! I have only ever gotten acrylic nails and I only get them done for special events. I wanted to get shellac for my wedding but my nails just aren't where I wanted them to be. So what do you prefer gel or acrylic? Also attached the look I'm going for but I may do a different shape so maybe also let me know what your favorite shape is 😊

I would honestly look into Dip Nails. They’re so much better for your nails and are stronger than gel but safer than acrylic! My favorite shape is almond!

Hello Brittney! I love nails and getting them done. I religiously get my nails done every 3 weeks. I used to do gel but now I do the dip powder. If you have time before the wedding I would say start getting your nails done, or at least one or two times before the wedding if possible. Your nails will grow and hold a great shape! If you don't want to try the dip, do gel! It doesn't chip or crack, the color lasts, and it won't destroy your nails underneath like acrylic does. For a shape I prefer square with rounded corners. Your design looks great, but yes absolutely do gel if nothing else. You won't regret it. I attached a photo of my nails...dip last done on Aug 9th, starting week 3. A little grow out but still could go another week if needed, length is all mine. Nails grow like wildfire with gel or dip. Hope this helps, good luck Brittney!!😁😁

Yes! I started doing dip nails as well and I LOVE them. And they last for so much longer and my nails are way healthier. I'm going Wednesday and will have them do an extension with the dip over it.

I am not sure what extensions are, but if you mean tips then yes. I have tips on in that photo. I did them in the salon a few times but it looked so easy I thought I could do it myself so I have been doing my own at home for the last 8 months. I add tips everytime.

I vote gel or dip powder. Acrylics are so damaging to your nails and if you break one off? Ouch. Just make sure you are going to a good salon no matter what. Which I'm sure you know but a friendly reminder 😅 I made the mistake of going to a crappy place to get shellac before going camping this summer and he didn't prep my nails at all and then proceeded to put on like six layers that peeled up the next day. Such a waste.

Yes they can! The dip is soooo much stronger and doesn't damage your nails. I've been getting the dip for a couple of months now and my nails are super healthy and finally growing straight! I have super brittle nails normally that curl when I grow them.

I will look into dipped then 😊 I am going to the best salon in my area, just don't know if they do dipped or not.

I have acrylic nails on currently .. but I usually do gels .. my nails were just so short the last few times o went that putting a tip and acrylic was the only way I was gonna let them grow

I don't even have to suggest dip because so many others already did but I will reinforce their suggestion! I used to do gel but now I only do dip and I love it! As far as my favorite shape, I switch between soft square (square with soft/round corners) and oval constantly so I have 2 favorites

I prefer pink & white gel, with fake tips. They don't turn yellow when I tan or before I get them filled and they are strong!

I recently switched from gel only to acrylic with gel polish which I have now. I prefer the acrylics with the gel polish as it is lasting much longer then gel alone. I was finding that the gel would start to peel or lift a little as the grew out. With acrylic, you will have the length you want and uniformity. Hope this helps.

I personally love acrylics now, I used to get gel until my nails kept breaking off at work so the acrylic is much stronger. But i get my nails done every 3 weeks at least! I love the squared off look! I see a lot of posts about the dipping which i have never tried so i might give that a shot next time too!

I agree with everyone saying dipping powder! Some salons also call it SNS, so if you see that listed anywhere it’s the same thing. I have gotten tips/extensions under my dipping powder nails and they turn out awesome and last forever. I agree with pp who said get your nails done 1-2 times before the wedding to let your nails grow out a bit! While they can do tips under the powder, it does make them a bit thicker and heavier. Nothing major, but a thought! Gel is never a bad option, either!

I used to bite my nails horribly but eventually stopped. I have ha acrylic nails, my nails, have used gel polish and currently just tried the dip. I found the dip to be easy, it looks great, and it is a better alternative to acrylic as it has vitamins and minerals in it. I also like oval nails.

I've honestly never had my nails done, always done them myself, so unfortunately, I cannot answer part of your question. However, my favorite shape is coffin/ballerina.

Gel is better for your nail than acrylic for sure. And personally I think it looks more natural.

I'm a gel girl. I like the more natural shape & length of gel nails (not needed the tips). And I can't stomach the extra $10-$15 for dip.
