Nails? What type? How soon to get before the wedding?

november bride, on November 10, 2009 at 12:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

Ok, so I have short nails, and would like to have nails for the wedding pics but I have never had acrylics. I have heard so many bad things about them. I want a french manicure but I don't know what the best option is? Acrylics? Gel? Tips? Lee press on - lol.... ugghhhhhhhhhhh. what's a girl to do? PS - I only want the nails for a week or two. and how close to the wedding should I get the nails? I'm doing my centerpieces on Wed night and leaving Thurs for my desination for a Friday wedding.

I am an acrylic fan and lover. I have been getting them put on since I was 13 and I am about to turn 22. There are horror stories out there yes, but since you are only going to have them on for about two weeks I wouldn't worry about that. Plus the great thing about acrylics is that you can have them any length you want and you won't have to worry about a nail falling off in the middle of your ceremony. I would recommend getting them done Wednesday morning or afternoon since you are leaving Thursday. I have heard of gel nails and I know that they look more natural but since you are getting a french done it won't really matter what the material underneath is. And like I said press ons are just a hassle, at least to me because the last thing I want to worry about the day of my wedding is my nails falling off.

I always have nails and i have gel nails. i find them to be a lot more sturdy than the acrylic, so if you think you will be hard on thm then i would go that route. i got mine the day before the wedding....but since you are leaving i would get them done maybe the wenesday afternoon. since you dont normally have nails when you first get them on on they can make your fingertips sore so i woudl suggest maybe getting them a couple days before. they wont have grown out by then but then your fingers wont hurt. also, when you are in a tropical place (if that where your destination is) your nails will grow a lot faster so the nails will have grown a bit by the time yoou get home. when you get home you can have the place take them off. please note though, when you take them off, your nails will be SUPER soft and it will have to rebuild its strength. i dont know if that will happen after only a couple of weeks...i have had nails for years lol

Since you only need them for for two weeks, I would say to go the acrylic route, I believe its cheaper and will last. I use acrylic all the time, I tried the gel but didn't find much of a difference except for the fact that it felt funny while it was applied to my nail and as it hardened.

Most people don't have any problems with acrylics, but my aunt can't wear them. I used to wear them all the time and she loved the look, so she went to my salon and got them for a reunion or something. Anyway, they would not stay on her...they kept falling off just like press on nails. For that reason, I would suggest getting them about a couple weeks before the wedding, just to be sure they're going to work out for you. You'll have to get them filled a couple days before the wedding, but that's better than having them fall off during the reception.

Gel nails last a very long time. My suggestion would be to get them a day or two before the wedding. Hopefully you'll have time to completely pamper yourself and prepare for that BIG day.

They are both great. I'd get them done a 1-3 days before the wedding. Lets you have some time to get used to them. And they are sturdy, it is very difficult to get them off so they definitely won't chip or break or anything like that. And you have to choose if you want them square or round at the end.

Thanks for the advice. I have never had fake nails. Which looks better, square or round? My nailbeds are oval and I think I'm leaning toward round. I get married next Friday! Maybe I should get them done this week to get used to them and get them touched up next Wednesday. What do you think. On a side note, I'm so addicted to WW now, it's hard to be on facebook or any other site.

You dont wanna do them too early because while your nails grow there may become some gaps between fake nail and actual nail... (I dont know if that was understandable lol)

Some things to take in consideration... the Acrylic nails are awesome and not as expensive in some areas as gel. They are also hard enough to not break. Yet... might be a bit thick that you wont be able to stick you nails in everything. Another thing.... If you've never had them try going for a bit short of nails... TRUST ME! any bit extra of lenght does matter when trying to move fast in doing decorations and you arent use to it. Or having them tangled somewhere... with that said...I would prefer white tip since you are all in white(i thinking this is your choice... if not it still matches) the white tip can conpliment the dress and when laying hands on your FH they will stand out on his skin... afterall you wanna show them off. lol

I always do round but I think most girls do square. I like round because it looks more natural.

I think you should be fine to do them next week. if you want to do them this week thats fine, i'm only thinking that they wouldnt have grown too too much by then but you would still need them filled sothats an added expense I guess you could say. I always do the square but thats totally up to you. haha and yes i am never getting any owrk done cause i'm always on here too lol

Thanks Dan's future wife, I never thought about the color. My dress is ivory, should the french be more of a pink shade than white? Never knew there were so many considerations....

I've always had square and my nail beds are oval. As fas as them turning yellow don't worry about that unless you are tanning. You will only have them on for a short amount of time. When you go to get them done you can also ask the person doing them for their professional opinion to get the best advice. The white tips look good with any color, though I have also had black, blue...they can do just about anything that your heart desires.

I got my acrylics the day before the wedding. They lasted just fine through the wedding but started falling off the next week. The last of them fell off today. Not sure how long they are supposed to last.

I got mine done on Wednesday evening and off to the destination wedding on Thursday. It was my first time too! Get it! It looks great! I got mine in an off white rounded, oval french manicure. Really nice and lasts and lasts....to this day, I don't know if it's gel or acrylic....I just trusted the manicurist! I think it is gel though. It was average length...not too long...You have to tell your manicurist what you are going to do with them. She will make them more sturdy...you might want to consult with them first.and would you have time to go the morning of Thurs? But in any case, they can make it very sturdy for you! Tell them though. Um I still have my gels on! Oh dear. But let me tell you they looked great until last week. They are still on.

I suggest getting pink and white tips. Its like a perm french and you dont have to worry about chipping polish. The tip is actually white and the acrylic gel is pink.

7 rules for choosing a wedding manicure

Of course, you should take care of your nails constantly, but a few weeks before the wedding - especially carefully. This does not mean that you need to grow or grow super long nails. The main thing is that your hands look great on this day, are exceptionally gentle and well-groomed. And use kodi base gel for greater nail strength

A fashionable design can be done on short nails. In addition, medium-length nails are much more convenient and practical than “long manicure”: you have to keep a bouquet in your hands all the time, accept gifts and congratulations, dance, and participate in contests.
