Naked cake (one with no frosting) drying out?

I've been emailing a bakery about wedding cakes and sent them this picture of a "naked" wedding cake. They said they won't make them because the cake dries out too fast. Has anyone else had this issue? I really love the way they look but I don't really want the cake to taste horrible.

I would go to someone else if you want a naked cake. I have always liked naked cakes, but I'm not a big fan of frosting. If you're concerned about it drying out, you could get it delivered during the cocktail hour so it doesn't have to sit out. That's what we're doing.

Good bakeries know how to make naked cakes that don't dry out. They soak them in a sugar/water mixture (not so much that it's soggy, obviously). With how popular these cakes are right now I don't think you'll have any issues finding a bakery that's familiar.

I've been to two weddings recently that both had naked cakes and they were great! Not dry at all, even after sitting all day.
