Naked Cakes: In or Out?

Maggie, on March 5, 2019 at 11:05 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 102

Naked cakes were a massively popular wedding reception trend in 2018! I’m personally not a fan because #frosting4life, but what do you think?

Are naked cakes a trend you want to see continued in 2019? Are they in or out?

We're doing a semi naked cake because we don't really like cake.. or frosting..

I still really like the look of naked cakes, but ugh, they're so dryyy. Semi-naked all the way.

Out! I think this is going to be one of those things you look back on and say, that's so 2018!

Naked cakes are beautiful, but give me allllllllll the frosting! That's the best part of any cake in my opinion!

This is exactly what I was thinking of! I've had a bite of a naked cake, but I feel like I'd need a glass of milk in order to get through it.

I am not a huge frosting person at all... literally when I eat cake I mostly eat around the frosting and then my FH with a massive sweet tooth will just eat my leftover frosting hahaha. Although I do like the concept of less frosting, i am not thrilled with the look of a naked cake though so we are doing a regular cake with vanilla frosting.

Not a fan. Every one I've had has been dry as all get out. Tasted like...well...a sponge.

I'll stick with some light buttercream frosting.

Out! They’re dry and they greatly limit the design you can have on them!

Well we had a naked cake in 2016 so I would guess by now they're out LOL

That being said, ours was super moist but our baker was A+

Out of curiosity, why don't you like the look of a naked cake? I like the looks of them, I just don't particularly want to eat them in their state of undress.

Not that I entirely dislike the look, mostly just for myself I always pictured my wedding cake being all white and I didn’t feel like I could ruin that mental image I had for myself 😂

I think we're going to do one tier that is frosted and the rest semi naked. My fh does not really like cake, and really doesn't like frosting, so since he doesn't care about much of the different aspects of our wedding, I'm letting him decide that. I dont think these will ever be fully "out", but if it is oh well lol.

I've never actually seen a naked cake at a wedding but I hate frosting so I wouldn't be upset if the trend continued.
