Naked Cakes: In or Out?

Maybe semi-naked to look like bark but not sure that FH would agree. We like that it can be filled with fruit so definately healthier. We both aren't into cake much (mainly from the frosting) but he likes the look of cakes with the fondant flowers and icing so not sure yet!

I like the naked cakes because, fondant is not a fav and I just like the simplicity of them. However I'm way more of a cupcake person.

I like the look of naked cakes or semi naked cakes not sure how they actually taste though with less frosting lol. Are they dry? Hmm 🤔.

We’re doing a ‘semi-naked’ for ours as well. I think this one will stick around because its still a pretty cake option for people who don’t care for mountains of frosting or stiff, tasteless fondant! My fiancé and I don’t care for anything too sweet so it was a great option for us.

I am all about personal sized cakes, which is how I think of cupcakes. Plus, I can be okay with eating two if I rationalize it as a slice of cake would be as big as two cupcakes. Smiley laugh

I like the semi naked cake look with drips down the side! I think the trend still has a little steam left in it haha

We’re actually doing a small 3 tier butter cake with buttercream frosting and raspberry swirled into the frosting between the layers. But we will also have a dozen chocolate Chewy cupcakes and a dozen butterbeer flavored golden snitch cupcakes, because we are huge nerds! Plus we wanted to give everyone a variety of choices.

We’re literally going to go to a bakery and ask for a birthday cake. We aren’t going to be doing a naked cake, but we need a chocolate for my fiancé and vanilla for me. Naked cakes are just too dry.

Personally I like them, but I actually scrape off excess frosting on cake. I also just think they are more rustic which is the feeling I’m going for.

I can see that, Katelyn! Are you going to have chocolate and vanilla cake or are you going to have a chocolate cake with vanilla icing (or vice versa)?

What we are going to do is have one tier be vanilla and the other be chocolate. That way we get the best of both worlds and neither one of us is displeased with the cake.
