Name change and health insurance

Patricia, on March 10, 2019 at 8:58 PM Posted in Married Life 0 3

Hello, I’m looking for some advice on a recent name change with my health insurance. I recently had a city hall marriage and decided to take my husband’s last name in February 2019. I was in the process of changing my name with my health insurance and they changed it for me a week later.

I had to go to the ER in December 2018 when I was still using my health insurance under my maiden name. The claim is still currently being processed. I’m worried the claim will be denied since the names don’t match now and I’ll be stuck with a huge bill. Has anyone had this happen to them?

Never had that happen, but hopefully if you just explain the situation and provide proof of the marriage/name change it’ll get sorted out. Might take longer because dealing with insurance is always a pain unfortunately, but I’m sure this is something that happens all the time so they should have a way to work it all out. Good luck!

You will be okay. They should have a record of you name change with your account number/member number too.
