Hi - I can’t find anything about name change for my car registration. I want to know if it’s really necessary or mandatory to change my name on my car registration and title? Anybody that went through the process of adding the husband surname can help me with that? I just want to update my DL and be done with.

    I updated my car registration but not my title. When I went, the clerk told me I could if I really wanted to but it wasn’t necessary. Every state is going to be different. Mine just had a short like half page form that I needed to fill out in addition to the form for the new drivers license.

    But did you update your car registration because you wanted or because they recommended?

    The car registration I needed to update with my new name as that had to match my license and insurance. The title didn’t need to be updated. However, this was in NJ. Each state may be different as the DMV is state specific and not federal, so the process changes across states.
