Name change services you recommend?

Nelly, on September 18, 2018 at 1:56 PM Posted in Married Life 1 12

Does anybody have a name change website they went through that they recommend? I know I could save money and do it myself, but I am going to be moving out of state and it just isn't panning out that I'll be able to do handle it before I move.

Let me know your goods and bad reviews please!! Thank you!!

Hi eilonwy3! From what I've heard those name change services don't really do anything. They can help you auto-fill some paperwork, but you'll still need to mail everything in yourself (passport and social security), go to the DMV, and contact all of your banks and various accounts. The paperwork part really isn't a hassle - the biggest hassle is realizing how many different places you need to change your name!

I agree with everything Lynnie said. Basically all the parts that are a pain- waiting at SS and DMV, contacting every company/entity that has your name and jumping through their specific hoops- no service can help you with. I used HitchSwitch, and they were expensive and basically useless. They answered my emails six months after I sent my questions. I would not recommend.

Honestly, none. It wasn't hard changing my name. The worst thing I ran into I had to wait for 2.5 hours at the DMV for a less than 5 minute process.

Just check your state and county rules for the paperwork, take it all with you, fill out the SS form before you go and it's pretty seemless.

I wouldn't waste your money on it. The hardest part was the wait at the SS office and the wait at the DMV. Everything else was easy. It just takes some time. I would recommend making a list of everything you need to change and just cross them off as they get done.

HitchSwitch has been great. It’s in my option worth the money and made things really easy for me. I couldn’t take any more stress!!

I agree with the other PPs that all those companies do is provide the forms for you but then you still have to physically go in person to SSA and DMV to actually complete the name change process. Save your money and do it yourself. The forms you fill out are relatively short and simple.

I've heard most aren't very helpful, they really just direct you on how to do it but you still have to do all the work they just put more in one place. I'm not sure if this is true, just what I've been told and read!
