Name change sites/packages?

fkajhfkj, on December 31, 2020 at 11:36 AM Posted in Married Life 0 7
Recently got married and it’s proving to be a bit more complicated than usual to get ahold of certain places to go forward with my name change. I’ve heard some good things about buying a name change service package that essentially lays it all out for you. I was just wondering if anyone had experience with a specific one and if there were any to be recommended? Smiley smile thanks in advance!

Everything I've read is that it's the same paperwork you get from the marriage license office for an extra fee and no real help. Ask friends and family who are recently married what they did.

I personally think those services are a waste of money. All they do is send you paperwork that is available, for free, online.

They are a waste of money. All they do is send you the forms, which take 5 minutes to find on your own. The SS and passport forms are available on their respective government websites for free. A quick Google search brings them up. Driver's license is going to be state specific, and then most other places will be satisfied with an email with a scanned copy of marriage license and updated driver's license. You have to change your name with social security first, then driver's license and passport, and then everything else. With these services, you still have to do everything. They just compile the forms for you (which, when I did it was literally just SS, passport, and driver's license). For credit cards and such, I logged on and went to the FAQ page and most had a name change question on there that detailed the process. Otherwise, I just emailed the customer service email that I would find and they got back to me relatively quickly.

I had mine changed by myself in October and it was VERY easy, even during Covid

Here’s all you need to do:
    1. Make an appts/walk in/online with the Social Security Office and bring your marriage license. If you go in, that day you’ll get a form that shows it’s been changed. They are generally very quick to mail the new card.
    2. Go to the DMV - check your state, in mine I just needed the verification form, and they will change it. 3. Go to your bank with your new drivers’ license and they will update your accounts. 4. Everything else - employer, credit cards, loans will want your new license or SS card to change it.
