Name Change

If you’re changing your last name to match that of your partner’s, are you keeping your middle name or maiden name? I can’t decide. Meaning:

First Middle NewLastName

or

First Maiden NewLastName

I'm keeping my middle and dropping my maiden name! I love my maiden name, but I'm very attached to my middle name. Smiley smile

    First, Middle, New for me.

My first and maiden name are both long enough - I don't need to make it all even longer Smiley winking

My maiden name is not attached to me, professionally or otherwise. Taking on his last name also didn't make me feel any less connected to my family roots Smiley smile

Olympian Shawn Machel Johnson changed her name to Shawn Johnson East when she got married. I thought it was cool that she changed her maiden name into her middle name, but I will not be doing that.

This is also cool. I hate being Selena initial. lastName, on all my legal docs, cards, etc

I want to this too. I have never been attached to my middle name and I never use it.

    First Middle New.

I considered shifting the middle, but it seemed more complicated than it was worth — it many states it is NOT as simple as just writing it on the forms when getting married. In my state to change a middle name you have to go to court separately to do so. Did not seem at all worth the effort to me. Socially (like email signature for friend stuff and for work stuff), I go by “First Maiden New” but legally I am First Middle New.

I’m not a fan of my middle name and my fh’s last name is hyphenated so to cut down on having to sign such a long name on legal documents I want to drop my middle name. Plus he doesn’t have a middle name so I don’t want one either lol!

I thought it was easy? I'm beginning to research this. But if it's a lot of hassle, I'll just keep my middle name
