Name Change!

If you go to the SS website, you can print the paperwork and mail it in.

I called my local office (in Illinois) right when they opened and was able to talk to somebody without an issue. I printed the form and all I have to do is mail it with an original copy of our certified marriage license. I have heard other brides say they have to send ID too, but my office told me the license counts. I would definitely try to find your local office and call!

Connecticut's offices are closed for in person visits and I just keep getting a endless loop of options and eventually the recordings switch to a British lady that says the voicemail box is unavailable and it hangs up.

Meghan is that confirmed for CT??? Where did you find that info? I know there is a form to fill out but the website says you have to provide your license and birth cert and it cannot be copies.

View Quoted Comment Ugh! Super frustrating! Ours is closed too but they picked up the phone. I would try calling the office number and just press 0 to see what you get. And make sure you’re calling during business hours!

Hi Casey! I believe all of the offices are still taking your documents and applications by mail, I'm just not sure what the turnaround time is! (And it can always be a little scary sending those important things out by mail!)

I'd see if you can get in touch with a local office by phone or email. You can also wait to change your name until more of these offices are open!
